The Back to the Future franchise is an American science-fiction adventure comedy film series written and directed by Robert Zemeckis, produced by Bob Gale and Neil Canton for Amblin Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Pictures. The main plot follow the adventures of a high school student, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), and an eccentric scientist, Dr. Emmett L. Brown (Christopher Lloyd), as they use a DeLorean time machineto time travel to different periods in the history of Hill Valley, California.
The first film was the highest-grossing film of 1985 and became an international phenomenon, leading to the second and third films, which were back-to-back film productions, released in 1989 and 1990, respectively. Though the sequels did not perform quite as well at the box office as the first film, the trilogy remains immensely popular after a quarter-century and has yielded such spinoffs as an animated television series and a motion-simulation ride at the Universal Studios Theme Parks in Universal City, California; Orlando, Florida (now closed); and Osaka, Japan, as well as a Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, iPad, PS3 and Wii video game. The film's visual effects were done by Industrial Light and Magic. The trilogy was nominated for five Academy Awards all together, winning one (Best Sound Editing).

There is a fellow member of the TVCU Crew who has been working on a Back to the Future timeline for three years now, that I've said I would post here when it's done. But in my impatience, I've decided to at least cover the film series in a quickie.
I am a big fan of the film series, and last year, my son watched it with me for the first time, even though it meant us staying up all night to watch them. And he loved them too. The series was a bad influence on my youth as I did try the very dangerous trick of riding a skateboard while holding on to a moving vehicle. But I did survive. Anyways, on to the timeline.
Mini Chronology:
1885--BACK TO THE FUTURE III--Time traveler Doctor Emmett Brown is stranded in this time period in Hill Valley, CA until his friend Marty McFly comes back to rescue him.
1934--INDIANA JONES AND THE SECRET OF THE SPHINX--Indy meets Albert Einstein. Albert Einstein also appears in VOYAGERS, DOOGIE HOWSER M.D., BACK TO THE FUTURE (ANIMATED SERIES), PARKER LEWIS, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, MUMMY (ANIMATED SERIES), and CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH.
April 22, 1990--THE EARTH DAY SPECIAL (LIVE ACTION TELEVISION SPECIAL)--The pollution caused by humans is literally killing Mother Nature. This is a mega television crossover event. And despite the silly premise, all the crossed series remain true to the shows and films they come from. There is an appearance of Elong Spengler, president of Waste Busters. He is said to be the brother of Egon Spengler of Ghostbusters and is played by the same actor. And yes, the Muppets are in this. To explain the existence of Muppets in the TVCU, I reference the Angle episode in which puppets are brought to life possessed by demons. Or the Buffy episode with a human turned into a dummy. Or Chucky from Child’s Play. Murphy Brown, Doogie Howser, Cheers, the Cosby Show, the Golden Girls, and Married with Children are all standard sitcoms and are brought into the TVCU by this cross. Looney Tunes characters are visitors from the Looniverse. Back to the Future is already well established as part of the TVCU, but this appearance of Doc Brown and his Delorean is a greater confirmation. Nathan Thurm is a character from Saturday Night Live, but just as with the appearance of Father Guido Sarducci, this cross does not bring in the entire cast of characters from SNL. Finally, this cross brings in the loveable alien E.T.
2009 to present--COMMUNITY--At some point, someone who met the Doctor in the TVCU must have decided to create a show based on him, called Inspector Spacetime. Likely the sidekick Reggie is based upon a companion of the Doctor, perhaps the one who created the show. It should also be noted that in the faux spaceship created by Abed for playing Inspector Spacetime, there is a flux capacitor. Now that means that there is one in the faux show Inspector Spacetime on his ship, which is based on the real exploits of the Doctor, thus making that a three way cross between DOCTOR WHO, COMMUNITY, and BACK TO THE FUTURE.

2012--SO YOU CREATED A WORMHOLE--SO YOU CREATED A WORMHOLE is written by some guys in the future, after the Rise of the Machines, in the Whoniverse, but because much of the historical documents of the past were destroyed, they have pieced history together via time travel, but their device seems to work with Time And Relative Dimension In Space, so they often hop from one alternate reality to the other, so a lot of what they think is one timeline is several, a possibility they themselves present as being possible. Crossovers: TVCU: Back to the Future (also Captain Future timeline, TVCU2, Mirror Universe), Forbidden Planet, the Time Machine, Time Cop, A Conneticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Star Trek, Timeline, Stargate, Bill and Ted (with claims that the Doctor gave Rufis time tech, though this may simply allude to the relationship between both sets of Time Lords), Hot Tub Time Machine (also TVCU2), Star Wars, Futurama, Donnie Darko, Army of Darkness, Time After Time, Lost, Philedelphia Experiment, 12 Monkeys, Quantum Leap, X-Files, Gundam, Power Rangers, Voltron, iRobot, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. 2021--TALES OF THE SHADOWMEN VOLUME 4: LORDS OF TERROR--"Captain Future and the Lunar Peril"--Another one I uncovered by accident. This one doesn't involve the Doctor, but it includes the mactroencephalites from DOCTOR OMEGA and Venusian aikido from DOCTOR WHO. In 1969 of the TVCU, a bomb is placed on the moon by MADAME ATOMOS. A time traveler named ST. MENOUX (from FUTURE TIMES THREE) travels to 2021 to warn authorities but finds himself in an alternate universe where Earth had developed much faster technologically and all the planets of the solar system are inhabited. (This is the reality in which Barsoom exists, and may be my explanation for BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II). The crossovers that appear as part of this reality in this story are: CAPTAIN FUTURE, ERIK JOHN STARK, EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS NOVELS, LEIGH BRACKETT NOVELS, NORTHWEST SMITH, C.L. A few pop culture references form DCUO 1.In the Cosmic Treadmill: Flashback Duo, enemies drop an item call Gray's Sports Almanac. This is a reference to Back to the Future Part II where a sports almanac under the same name was central to the plan of the movie's primary antagonist. 2.One of the hairstyles consisting of a small afro and sideburns is called "The Hyde", a reference to the character from the TV Show That 70's Show. 3.Another of the hairstyle choices consisting of a mohawk with a full beard is called "Soldier of Fortune", a reference to Mr. T and his role on The A-Team. 4.In the S.T.A.R. Labs Research Facility Alert, when the player is transporting the remainders of the Scion of Fear, a computerized voice says "If you become lightheaded from thirst, feel free to pass out." This is a direct line spoken by the villainess GLaDOS in the video game Portal.

Non-Horror Crosses: Back to the Future
The Story: In 1887, Van Helsing uses an amulet to try to banish Dracula into the void. He failed. Exactly 100 years later the talisman ends up in an unnamed town that appears to be Hill Valley, California. So does Van Helsing’s notebook, that is needed to perform the ritual again. A group of kids must work together to stop Dracula, who has come to town as well, with a group of monster lackeys, to perform his own ritual and bring Hell on Earth, with him as ruler.
HCU Comments: The monsters are all meant to be the Universal monsters (based on the director commentary). This was also the case with Van Helsing though, and as with Van Helsing, we have to assume they are not. But at least in the case of this film, we are closer to the original film versions. The Dracula of this film uses the alias Alucard, as did the Dracula from Son of Dracula. Thus, I presume that this is the same vampire from that film, rather than Armand Tesla. The Frankenstein Creature of this film can’t be the one from the Universal series, who is in suspended animation in La Mirada, Florida at this time. But there certainly have been plenty of other creatures out there created by the Frankenstein family. The Wolf Man of this film claims to be Larry Talbot, but since the Universal Wolf Man is also in suspended animation in La Mirada, this must be his son, Larry Talbot Junior. The Mummy here likely isn’t Kharis, but it might be Klaris who did survive the events of Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy as revealed in Return of the Wolf Man. On the other hand, the Gill-Man present could be the same from the original films, or at least the same species. The Van Helsing in this film only appears in an 1887 scene. It may be Abraham from Bram Stoker’s novel. The downtown set used for the town setting is the same used for Back to the Future. There’s nothing to contradict it indeed being Hill Valley. That would bring the Back to the Future trilogy into the Horror Crossover Universe.

The Story: Ghosts are haunting a television studio.
HCU Comments: Peter and Egon have a conversation in which it’s pointed out that the Ecto-4 has a Flux Capacitor, and that this would come in handy should they ever encounter Godzilla. Back to the Future is already in via Monster Squad and So You Created a Wormhole. This confirms its existence in the HCU. And of course, Godzilla was brought in via a cross with King Kong.
