The Dawson

James Van Der Beek has passed away from cancer.  In his honor, I will be covering Dawson's Creek in the TVCU and also James Van Der Book in the TVCU. 1998 - 2003--Dawson's Creek--A soap opera about teen angst.  I remember when this show first came out one of my soldiers was watching it and I made fun of him for it, but later it was on in the mornings in reruns and I got hooked.  The show launched several careers, and was one of the most popular shows of its era.   1999--Muppets from Space--Pacey and Joey are at the beach when aliens arrive.   2000--Scary Movie--Dawson crawls in through the wrong window.   2000--Young Americans--This is a spin-off of Dawson's Creek.  It takes place at a private boys' school.   2001--Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back--James Van Der Beek, the star of a show called Dawson's Creek, is cast in the new Bluntman and Chronic movie.   November 1, 2010--Funny or Die--"Van Der Week:  Behi...

Santa!!!

I wasn't sure what I wanted to talk about this Christmas. But then I remembered I had written the following for Television Crossover Universe: Worlds and Mythology Volume II, a book that I started but then ran out of steam. The book is likely never to be published, but I put a lot of work into this essay which is complete so why not publish it here? THE TELEVISION CROSSOVER UNIVERSE TAKES A HOLIDAY: THE SANTA CLAUS MYTHOS Originally Presented in Ho Ho Ho! The Santa Blog and Easter Comes Late...The Bunny in the TVCU and inspired by Gordon Long’s Of Flying Reindeer, Talking Snowmen, and the World's Greatest Toymaker: The Rankin-Bass Universe Timeline "HO HO HO! Now, my friends, I will show you the way the real Santa Claus should look. Please! As if there was such a person as Santa Claus, which is of course absolutely ridiculous in a people's democracy!" Chairman Georgi Koz 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' When children believe that Santa Claus is real, he IS ...

The TVCU's How the Grinch Missed Christmas

Image
Every Christmas I post something holiday related.  This Christmas I intended to cover the Grinch, particularly since I'm also currently working on Cartoon Multiverse:  The Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia, but my schedule has been so full that I just haven't had the time. So Merry Belated Christmas!   Earlier than somethings but later than others--HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (LIVE ACTION)-- In the live action film, the Grinch was delivered via storks dropping off kids via balloons. The Grinch was diverted from his original destination as a baby and raised by a Who couple.   His hatred of Whos came from being raised among people who didn't like him because he was different. He was the product of constant bigotry and bullying, but the final straw was when he was embarrassed in front of the Who girl that he had a crush on, which led him to leave Whoville and live in the cave in the mountain. 1954--SEUSSICAL--This musical adapts Horton Hears a Who but co...

The Muppets and Sesame Street Revisited: A TVCU Quickie

Image
What's a quickie?   See this blog. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Muppets  are a group of  puppet  characters known for an absurdist,  burlesque  and  self-referential  style of  variety - sketch   comedy . Created in 1955 by  Jim Henson , they are since 2004 the namesake for the  Disney   media franchise  that encompasses films, television series, music recordings, print publications, and other media associated with  The Muppet Show  characters. Henson once stated that the term "Muppet" had been created as a  portmanteau  of the words " marionette " and " puppet ", but also claimed that it was actually a word he had coined. [1]  The Muppets debuted on the television program  Sam and Friends , which aired locally on  WRC-TV  in Washington, D.C.  from 1955 to 1961. After appearing on skits in several late night talk shows and advertising commercials duri...
