What to write when you don't want to write?

I've taken another hiatus on the Sci-Fi Multiverse book.  There's a lot of redundencies with the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia, more than I anticipated.  There's a lot of sci-fi/horror crossovers.  I don't want to repeat myself but I also want to be all-inclusive.  This has left me frustrated and ready to abandon the project altogether.  My previous venture, Cartoon Multiverse, was abandoned because of my quest to be all-inclusive faced me against Family Guy, where the crossovers never end and I was really sick of watching every Family Guy episode in such minute detail.   So...  I figured I can spend more time on the TVCU blog.  I love the TVCU blog.  Except, I'm running out of ideas.  I think I've covered mostly everything, except for maybe some topics I don't have enough familiarity with to cover.  I know there's a lot of anime crossovers, which I would have gotten to in Cartoon Multiverse, but I'm really not that famil...

Updates, Announcements and Reflections

Image
I'm back. I recently announced my retirement from writing.  I was very tired.  I went back to work after nearly 20 years on disability.  I didn't have as much time or energy to write.  And I was diagnosed with Diabetes as well. But I recently moved, and am on new medication, and I find myself feeling more energy lately.  I'm not sleeping as much (I was sleeping way too much), and I'm more productive in my days. So let's try this a little bit longer. The neglected TVCU blog is coming back.  But maybe a little different.  I'm kind of tired of doing timelines and may strike out with more essay style posts.  That's not to say that I won't keep doing timelines occassionally, especially when tackling more character oriented posts, like when I cover historical figures. I'm planning on doing one post per month.  Not as ambitious as my one post a day when I first started this thing in 2011, but better than what I have been doing. Why just once a...

Embracing the Multiverse

Image
Some spoilers, will be mentioning the new Flash movie and Spider-Verse. The TVCU was created based on the idea of a shared reality based on crossovers.  And it still is.   However, in recent years, films and television have been embracing the multiverse concept. From the beginning, the TVCU has used the multiverse concept.  We had the Looniverse for cartoons that don't fit in a "real world", like funny talking animals.  We had the TVCU-2 for reboots.  We had a mirror universe.   The TVCU has also had a concept that it happens the way we see it on the screen.  So when things are shown to be in the same reality, we accept that.   And I tried to cram things in sometimes, like putting all the versions of Superman in one timeline.   But the film and television industry have shown me a new way.   We know now that Ghostbusters and Real Ghostbusters are alternate timelines.  We know that every version of the T...

Welcome to the New TVCU.... Pretty Much Same as the Old TVCU.... Almost...

So Crisis is ended.  The Multiverse was restored, but changed.  And while Earth-66 was not shown to be restored, several other worlds were, and there's nothing to say it wasn't.  So we can keep our TVCU. But going forward, I'm going to take the opportunity to restructure a bit of TVCU Multiverse theory.  Perhaps we can consider Batman'66/Wonder Woman'77 a "Post-Crisis" comic.  If Earth's 1, 38, and Black Lightning can be merged, why not the worlds of Batman'66 and Wonder Woman'77?  Into a Television Crossover Universe?  So that's what I'm going with.  Also note the world of Super Friends was identified as Earth-1938.  I like that because it avoids confusion with Earth-12, the DC Animated Universe.  Also now I can mention that the DC Extended Universe was shown to exist, even beyond the multiverse that was destroyed, yet still connected to the Speed Force.  So the TVCU Mulitverse.  I think going forward...

Goodbye, Multiverse... Another Crisis Update

Well, spoilers, but the Television Crossover Multiverse is gone, so... see you all in January... But seriously, I revise my thoughts and think that somehow a merged Earth may emerge, in which case all TVCU will be retroactively pulled into the Arrowverse. Does that mean we can't use alternate realities anymore? Not really. DC kept using Hypertime as a new "multiverse" following Crisis, so I imagine so can we. So we don't have to say Alien doesn't exist just because it doesn't fit in the Arrowverse.

Crisis Update with Spoilers

The Crisis just destroyed the TVCU (Earth-66) and the TVCU-2 (Earth-89).  Well, we're going to have to figure something out going forward.  Looks like the Main TVCU is the Arrowverse now.  Sorry, Lucy, Oliver Queen is the center point now.

Update on the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia

I haven't worked on the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia in a while, as my schedule has been pretty full with other things taking priority. But it is still in progress. However, I've decided that I will be taking a bit of a different approach to the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia rather than following the exact same format I used for the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia. So I'm going to be reworking the stuff I've already written before proceeding. One of the differences is th at I will not be trying to force all the crossovers into one shared reality. The nature of animated series is far different than what I previously worked on for the HCE or even with the live action TVCU, that I have to shape it as a multiverse of realities with constantly changing timelines and varied realities that merge and unmerge. So there's that challenge. The other thing I'll be doing is that I won't be just placing entries in chronological order, but further breaking it down by categ...

Transitions

It’s been a while, and I thought I’d update my followers on what’s been going on. Working at Subway so I can pay the bills, and I hate to admit, but I’m starting to enjoy it there. I’m also on a path to take on a pastoral role.  I’m not exactly sure where that path is going to end up, but I’m open to the journey. As for the world of entertainment and geek culture… The 2nd edition of the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia is coming out at some point. I’m also still working on the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia and Television Crossover Universe:  Worlds and Mythology Volume II, but very infrequently. However, I am more frequently posting new stuff on the TVCU website, and I’m in the process of cleaning up some of the older posts. I’m also actively posting in my various Facebook groups that I moderate, and I’m still keeping up on the latest television and tracking the crossovers. I lost the podcast, and the hope of doing the spin-off podcast.  My primary income c...

How You Can Support the TVCU!

Image
The TVCU is a franchise. We are this website, a series of books through two publishers, and a podcast. If you enjoy what we produce, there's a few ways you can help keep it all going. First, there's of course, monetary donations.  There are a few ways you can contribute money, and to which project you will support. At the top of our sidebar, there is a donate button.  The money donated there goes towards funding the website. We also have crowdfunding for the podcast.   You can contribute to the podcast here. And we have a kickstarter for my latest book project, the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia, a follow-up to the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia.   You can check that out here.   But if you can't support us financially, there are other ways in which you can support what we do here. One thing you can do is share, share, share.  Share the crowdfunding links.  Share this website link.  Subscribe to our podcast on iTunes. Fin...
