Donny & Marie: A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N Roll

Image
Remember the 70s?  I was born in 1972, and to me, the 1970s was a magical period where everything on TV seemed wonderful.  Yes, my family watched Donny & Marie.  In retrospect, I'm not sure why.  I guess it's because our television channels were limited to three networks, PBS, and two independent stations, and VCR's weren't even a thing yet.  So Donny & Marie was the best thing on among those six channels.   1972--THE OSMONDS--Animated Series.  November 1972--HERE'S LUCY--"Lucy and Donny Osmond"-- Lucy and Kim attend a Donny Osmond concert with cousin Patricia (Eve Plumb), who is crazy for the 14 year old singer. Donny, spots Kim in the audience, and he falls in love at first sight. Kim believes the flowers and letters are for Patricia, but soon discovers the mix-up. Realizing Donny volunteered to perform at Kim's Charity function because of the mix-up, Kim feels obligated to set the record straight. 1976 to 1979--The era of the Don...

Married...with Children

A Married... With Children Crossover Chronology by Robert E. Wronski, Jr. (original post) and Matt Hickman (all the updates) Taking a break from my research on Dracula crossover to cover something much more horrifying.  Love and marriage. Married...with Children was a really dumb show, with stupid idiotic plots and unrealistic characters, and yet it was a show my whole family loved. (Ironically, Full House was the other show we seemed to all rally around.) Married...with Children was a ground breaking show, in that it broke the popular trend of the family sitcom formula by showing us a truly dysfunctional family.  This was something my own family could relate to.  Other shows, like Roseanne, would soon follow to show us that the Cosbys, Seavers, and Keatons were a fantasy. Fortunately for us, the show was popular enough to make it's way into at least one major multi-network crossover, (yes, a Bundy Crisis Crossover of sorts), and it made at least two attempts...

Blogging 'bout the Beaver

After having spent some time talking about comics and cartoons, it's time to return to some core TV blogs, and Toby's recent blog has once again inspired my own blog topic, in the classic television series, LEAVE IT TO BEAVER. 1956 to 1957--THE BEAVER PAPERS--A book comprised of 23 "episodes" from a "lost season" of the series, written in the original style of the series.  Since there is no season gaps during the run of the series, and the series ends with Wally heading to college, this must occur the year before the series started. 1957--LEAVE IT TO BEAVER--The feature film, which though debuting in 1997, follows the classic formula and doesn't contradict the series, so as with other film remakes, I'm placing this before the series as an "untold pilot". 1957 to 1963--LEAVE IT TO BEAVER--The story of Ward and June Cleaver, and their children, Wally and Theodore (aka the Beaver, or just the Beav.)   Click here for a good description of...
