I invite the rest of the TVCU Crew to update this should they find something worth adding, and for anyone else out there who has a good TV or film crossover to let me know.

And if you are not one of this blog's regular contributors, but you have something that you think should be added, then let me know and I will then add it. 

I'm not such a big fan of westerns, and since there aren't too many westerns being made these days, there isn't much point to do updates since there aren't new crossovers being produced.  But should someone catch one, please let me know.

I have however updated this post at least to incorporate information from the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia, published by 18thWall Productions, and I remind you that for the purposes of this post, the Television Crossover Universe and Horror Universe are synonymous.

The Wild, Wild TV Crossover West

Westerns were once an extremely popular medium in television and films.  And since popular shows tend to eventually cross over with each other, many television westerns became interconnected, and connected to the larger TV Crossover Universe.

The 1800s was a time of great adventure.   In the time before TV, TV crossovers ruled.  The greatest focal points of adventure and heroism during this century were in London, and the western United States.  This crossover chronology will focus on all the major crossover events of this century, but note that more attention will go towards our western frontier.  This is a blog about cowboys and Indians, about outlaws and marshals, about rustlers and train robberies, about wagon trains and the cavalry.

So, a long time ago…


1771--Birth of Don Diego de la Vega, future Zorro.  His father is Don Alejandro de la Vega, who had a cousin named Ebardo de la Vega.  Ebardo will be the grandfather of future villain Dr. Miguelito Loveless (from WILD WILD WEST.)  This theory was created by Jess Nevins, and has been added to by Toby O'Brien here. James and Gordon take note, it involves a renegade Time Lord and Fantasy Island.  More on the theory here.

1801--ORLAK, EL INFIERNO DE FRENKENSTEIN--Dr. Carlos Frankenstein creates his own monster.

1806--CABALGANDO HACIA LA MUERTE--Don Jose de la Torre becomes Zorro.

Summer 1807--ZORRO--"Zorro and the Mountain Man"--Zorro comes to the aid of mountain man Joe Crane (a character from THE SAGA OF ANDY BURNETT).

1809--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES--"Mark of the Zap"--The sons of Horatio Primm (named Costello from his mother) and Cuthbert Greenway (having changed his name to Abbott to avoid being confused with his treacherous father), the grandfathers of the comics/con men Lou Costello Junior and Bud Abbott Junior, are assistants to El Zorro.

Summer 1815--THE DAUGHTERS OF ZORRO--Zorro II is imprisoned in this film, and that's all I know.

1819--ZORRO--"One for All"--Zorro travels to France where he meets the descendants of the legendary THREE MUSKETEERS.

19th Century--ZORRO--"The Wizard"--Adam West's character here is named Professor Wayne after his own Bruce Wayne in "Batman" (1966). Also, the bass line from that series' theme is used as Wayne enters Zorro's cave.

March 1, 1843--Birth of James T. (Tiberius?) West.

Winter 1844--Birth of Tonto (Tiberius?  Just kidding.)

September 14, 1848--Birth of John (Tiberius?) Reid, who will become the legendary LONE RANGER.



1849--PONDEROSA--the Cartwright family has moved onto some scrub land in the territory of Nevada. As a widower Ben Cartwright tries to raise his sons Adam, Hoss and Little Joe in this new land.

1850--Kwai Chang Caine is born in China.

1852--CACTUS MAKES PERFECT--The trio gets a fake map to a gold mine and head out west. They actually find real gold, which two thieves try to steal from them. However, they triumph and keep the gold. (Of course, as usual, whenever they gain money, they either squander it or are swindled out of it.)

Winter 1859--Birth of Miguelito Tiberius Loveless, Jr.

1859 to 1873--BONANZA--Exploits of the Cartwright family who are rich SOBs running the Ponderosa ranch and butting their noses constantly into the affairs of people in town.



1859 to 1873--BONANZA--"Caution, Easter Bunny Crossing"--I guess the Easter Bunny appears.

Summer 1859--A FATE CAST IN SILVER--Story by John Small in the anthology DAYS GONE BY:  LEGENDS AND TALES OF SIPOKNI WEST.  In this tale, Elena (Tiberius) Mason (from THE MASK OF ZORRO and THE LEGEND OF ZORRO) is a school teacher and one of her students is John (Tiberius) Reid, the future LONE RANGER.  (OK, I'm done with the Tiberius joke.  Promise.  I'm not sure what possessed me to keep doing it.  Perhaps because I've had a very long day and I'm tired, or because I'm watching the Office.  I don't know.)

1860--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES--"Phony Express"--Costello and Abbott work for the Pony Express.

1861--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES--"Going Going Gun"--Costello and Abbott end up as Sheriff and Deputy in a western town.

Summer 1862--BONANZA--"Enter Mark Twain"--Samuel Clemens is a reporter in Virginia City for the Territorial Enterprise.  He goes after a politician trying to steal the Ponderosa Ranch.

1863--4 FOR TEXAS--The trio briefly head out west where two groups of crooks are in competition with each other.

1863--WAY OUT WEST--The grandfathers of Ollie and Stan are prospectors out west.

1864--BONANZA--Adam encounters a man dressed as a knight claiming to be King Arthur.

1864--GOOFS AND SADDLES--The trio's spying career continues, but now for the cavalry. The trio uses the names of other legendary western heroes. Moe poses as Wild Bill Hickok, Curly poses as Buffalo Bill Cody, and Larry poses as Just Plain Bill. They are sent by General Custer to catch some cattle rustlers.

Spring 1865--Birth of Carmelita (Ti..no, won't do it) Loveless.

1865--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES--"Cherokee Choo Choo"--Costello and Abbott are running a locomotive and have trouble with attacking Indians.

Mid 1860s--THE KATRINA PROTOCOL--Novel by Jean-Marc Lofficier, who in my opinion has created more valid crossovers than any other writer ever.  Here, Aharon Van Helsing battles Dr. Miguelito Loveless, duels with Rhett Butler, and assists the WIZARD OF OZ.

September 1867 to January 1868--ISHMAEL--Spock, a Vulcan from the 23rd century, a crew member of the U.S.S. Enterprise, is trapped in the past with amnesia.  He is taken in by Aaron Stemple of Seattle, WA.

Winter 1868--THE WILD WILD WEST--"The Night of the Inferno"--U.S. Secret Service Agents James West and Artemis Gordon begin working together.

Spring 1869--THE LONE RANGER and Tonto begin working together as a crime fighting duo.

1869--WISTFUL WIDOW OF WAGON GAP--When Costello appears to have killed a man in a duel, he is sentenced to care for the victim's widow and children.

Summer 1869--THE WILD WILD WEST (FILM)--Secret Service agents James Douglas Henry and Barton Swift stop the evil plans of Dr. Arliss Loveless.

c. 1870--LUCKY LUKE--"Man Washington"--From Jonathan Gysen I don't know if it count as a valid crossover : In Lucky Luke comic "L'Homme de Washington", James West and Artemus Gordon appear under the name of James East et Artémius Gin.https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/L'Homme_de_Washington

1870s--MAVERICK--"Hadley's Hunters"--In this episode, Bart Maverick meets Marshall Dan Troop and Deputy Johnny McKay (THE LAWMAN), Cheyenne Bodie (CHEYENNE), Bronco Layne (BRONCO), and lawyer Tom Brewster (SUGARFOOT).  Bart also stops by Christopher Colt's office (COLT .45) but he's not there.  There is also an odd crossover appearance of an ancestor of a character from 77 SUNSET STRIP.  Toby O'Brien of Toobworld, our resident expert on classic TV crossovers, adds:  One last note, in the Maverick episode "Hadley's Hunters", the bartender offers Bart Maverick a sawed off shotgun called Mule's Foot or something like that. It was left there by a bounty hunter to pay for his tab. This would be Mare's Laig, the gun used by Steve McQueen's character in 'Wanted: Dead Or Alive'. (It just couldn't be named outright as that was a CBS Western.)

1870s--SUGARFOOT--"Misfire"--Bret Maverick appears.

1870s--MAVERICK--"Gun-Shy"--Maverick meets Matt Dillon (GUNSMOKE) and there is a reference to Paladin (HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL).

1870s--MAVERICK--Bart encounters the Cartwrights (BONANZA).

1870s--SUGARFOOT--Christopher COLT (.45) frequently appears.  (By the way, get it?  His last name is Colt.  He's in the old west, and he uses a colt .45.)  SUGARFOOT (Tom Brewster) also pops in on other shows like BRONCO, CHEYENNE, and MAVERICK.

1870s--SUGARFOOT--Another episode features an appearance of THE LAWMAN (Johnny McKay).  Christopher COLT .45 also appears, and Bret MAVERICK appears on a wanted poster.

1870s--THE VIRGINIAN--is about a Virginian.  It's a spin-off of DECISION (but that is an anthology, so only the one pilot episode is in the TVCU) and spins off into THE MEN FROM SHILOH.

The Story : The Nautilus that was believed lost in northern Norway has actually gone through the maelstrom. The spirit of Nemo has been poisoned by thoughts of a nightmarish entity lurking beneath the ocean for millions of years: Cthulhu.
Notes: There are many references to Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos: Deep Ones, Arkham's Miskatonic University, Innsmouth, Great Old Ones, Cthulhu himself, R'lyeh, Necronomicon, Abdul al-Hazred, the quote "That is not dead which can eternal lie / And with strange aeons even death may die". There are also many references to Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Professor Aronnax and Captain Nemo are the main characters of this story. Conseil appears at the beginning but is killed. The events of Jules Verne's novel are mentioned several times. The Ice Sphinx appears and Pym are mentioned. Dr Russell Chase of Nassau is mentioned. He must be the ancestor of the namesake character created by Richard D. Nolane. Special agents West and Gordon are mentioned. At one point, there is a room with lots of statues: I recognize Jabba the Hutt and the creature of the Black Lagoon. A Dalek appears (I don't know if it's a true Dalek or a statue). Doc Savage is mentioned thirty years before his birth, he probably traveled in time (maybe with The Doctor). Another character of this story is Amélie Dupin. At one point, she mentions a detective uncle in Paris, which Poe told few inquiries. The discovery of the far side of the moon by the Gun Club is mentioned.  [This entry written by Jonathan Gysen]

1871--MAVERICK--The Mavericks are a family of gamblers who roam the west...gambling...and also butting their noses into other peoples business.  Their stories continue in BRET MAVERICK and YOUNG MAVERICK.

1872 to 1882--HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL--Note that the episodes are not in chronological order, and go back and forth over adventures from a whole decade.  From Wikipedia:  "Like many TV westerns, the television show was set during a nebulous period after the Civil War. Based on several episodes, Paladin had served in the cavalry during that war, about 12 years previously, and the episode "The Fifth Man" (May 30, 1959) was clearly set during 1875 (the introduction to episodes of the radio version explicitly states the year 1875 as well). The episode "Full Circle" (May 14, 1960) and "Blind Circle" in the fifth season are also set in 1875. The episode "Lazarus" in the fifth season takes place on March 6 and 7, 1875. On the other hand, the episode of May 16, 1959 ("Comanche") was set during 1876, as it ends with Paladin surveying the aftermath of Custer's Last Stand (Battle of the Little Big Horn). In "Out at the Old Ball Bark" in the fourth season, he speaks of having seen a baseball game in 1876. In "The Shooting of Jessie May" in the fourth season, the newspaper is dated October 7, 1876, and an event in the Civil war was "10 or 12 years ago." "The Cure" in the fourth season is set sometime after the 1876 death of Wild Bill Hickok. The episode of December 6, 1958 ("The Ballad of Oscar Wilde") takes place during Oscar Wilde's tour of America in 1882.^[8]

On the other hand, in "Season 6, Episode 23: Cage at McNaab" Original Air Date—16 February 1963 Paladin is asked by the wife of a man who is condemned to die to visit him in prison and see if new evidence can be found to clear her husband. Not sure if he wants the job, Paladin agrees to the visit and it leads to quite an unexpected result. Paladin literally finds he now walks in another man's footsteps. While imprisoned, to prove he could not have spent the last year in solitary confinement, Paladin specifically states that the "Last week the liberal Republicans nominated Greeley for President and Brown for Vice President." This was the 1872 election, indicating this occurred prior to November 1872, probably the summer of 1872. He also says, "Last May 22, the Amnesty Act for Confederate soldiers was signed." December 1872--HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL--"Fogg Bound"--Paladin aids Phileas Fogg for part of his mission to travel AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS.

March 1873--THE GUNSMITH # 10--"New Orleans Fire"--Clint Adams accepts a mission from James West.

1873--THE WILD WILD WEST--"The Night of the Jack O'Diamonds"-- A woman talks to Artemus Gordon about the hacienda de la Vega.  [This entry written by Jonathan Gysen]

TALES OF THE SHADOWMEN VOLUME 9: LA VIE EN NOIR “THE TREASURE OF EVERLASTING LIFE” (SHORT STORY BY MATTHEW DENNION)

Summer 1873--STAR TREK:  ISHMAEL--Congressman Aaron Stemple persuades the U.S. government to avoid dealings with the evil alien Karsids.

Later 1873 to 1905--KUNG FU--Chinese immigrant Kwai Chang Caine "walks the Earth", meaning he wanders around the west getting in fights in the most peaceful way possible by always butting his nose into other's problems, a lot like a lot of heroes of the later 1970s and 1980s like David Banner, for example.



1874--ALIAS JESSE JAMES--From James:  I just watched the Bob Hope comedy Alias Jesse James (1959). At the very end Hope is saved from the James Gang by a litany of Western Heroes: James Garner as Bret Maverick; Fess Parker as Davy Crockett; Gary Cooper as Will Kane from High Noon; Roy Rogers; Bing Crosby; Jay Silverheels as Tonto; Hugh O'Brian as Wyatt Earp; James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon; Ward Bond as Major Seth Adams; and Gail Davis as Annie Oakley.  The presence of Bing Crosby, and the smart remark he makes about how hopeless Hope is, makes me think that the Bing and Bob seen in this movie are the same two who would later end up traveling the world through all of the Road To... pictures.  Between Alias Jessie James and the Gambler Movie, we have almost all of the classic Western Heroes in the TVCU.  [Toby O'Brien says:  1874 - James Garner as Bret Maverick does not show up in "Alias Jesse James", a myth that will not die.]

1875--HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL--"The Protege"--Marshall Matt Dillon is mentioned (from GUNSMOKE, in case you've forgotten already.)

1875--HORSES' COLLARS--The Trio take jobs as private detectives in the old west.

1876--WHOOPS, I'M AN INDIAN!--The Trio are crooked gamblers who hide from the law by posing as Indians (or Native Americans if you wish.)

Winter 1877--HOLD THE PRESS:  PALADIN VS. DILLON--(Story by Martin Grams, Jr. in It's That Time Again).  In Dodge City, Paladin encounters Marshal Matt Dillon.

August 1877--THE CISCO KID:  GUNFIRE AND BRIMSTONE--The Cisco Kid escapes from the LONE RANGER. and also encounters Billy the Kid.

Spring 1878--RAWHIDE KID:  SLAP LEATHER--This crossover involves Laura Ingalls (LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE), the town of LONESOME DOVE, KID COLT, THE LONE RANGER, THE TWO-GUN KID, Kid Shaleen (CAT BALLOU), Bernard Phife the First (ancestor of Deputy Barney Phife of Mayberry), the Cartwrights (BONANZA), newspaperman Lew Grant (ancestor of LOU GRANT), and Will Kane (HIGH NOON).

Summer 1878--THE LONE RANGER--"Six Gun's Legacy"--The Lone Ranger aids Robert Walker, son of Six Gun Walker, who Chuck Loridans believes is the 16th Phantom, also called the Masked Cowboy.

1879--YES, WE HAVE NO BONANZA--The Trio is still in the west, now working as waiters at a saloon with the girls they wish to marry. Their boss is a crook who with his partner has buried some stolen money. The girls' father owes the saloon owner money, and will be killed if he doesn't pay. The guys go prospecting to find money and come across the buried loot. They go to pay it to the boss, who recognizes his own money. A chase follows which then leads to the criminals crashing into the sheriff's office.

1880s--THE RIFLEMAN--Lucas McCain is a nice guy who butts his nose into other people's business.  This show is a spin-off of DICK POWELL'S ZANE GREY THEATER, though only in the fact that one episode of this western anthology was the pilot for the series.  Because it's an anthology, with the stories not being connected to each other, the anthology is not included in the TVCU except for this one pilot episode.  The Rifleman had a spin-off called THE LAW OF THE PLAINSMAN.

1880--ROCKIN' THRU THE ROCKIES--The Stooges get jobs as frontier guides leading a minstrel show out west. However, after Indians attack, their horses run off and they are stranded. They must deal with recurring Indian attacks, bears, and snow, but eventually get a brainstorm and place wind sails on their wagons which gets them successfully moving.

1880--THE OUTLAWS IS COMING--The trio have gone east where they work for a wildlife conservation magazine in Boston. However, the editor sends them out west on assignment to get rid of them. Having been known as great lawmen and great outlaws from previous adventures, they find themselves hunted by every great outlaw and hero of the west. However, they are under the protection of Annie Oakley, who has fallen for the magazine editor and so protects them for his affection. (Note that I tried very hard to find a date that would include all the historical figures in this film. The historical figures are Annie Oakley, Chief Crazy Horse, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, Billy the Kid and Jesse James. I found a date that works to fit into the lives and time periods where they are not too old or too young. I succeeded, except for Hickok, who died in 1875. So we can say that the Hickok here is someone else, impersonating Hickok.)

1881--GHOST RIDER:  HEAVEN’S ON FIRE # 6/RAWHIDE KID:  THE SENSATIONAL SEVEN # 1--The Ghost Rider of this time is yet another possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance.  Rawhide Kid knows many famed real life western legends.  He also seems to be familiar with the Dalton Gang from LUCKY LUKE, a French comic, and Tonto, partner of THE LONE RANGER.

Summer 1882--IT CRAWLS--THE LONE RANGER uses the Necronomicon to fight an alien mummy.



1883—The Rifleman—“Honest Abe”
Lucas and Mark McCain try to figure out if a seemingly insane man living in their town is actually the ex-president, or an insane man.

1883--PHONY EXPRESS--The trio are now tramps. They arrive in Peaceful Gulch where for some reason a poster had been printed showing them as legendary lawmen. It may be that their experiences from the 1870s capturing crooks made them legends beyond the reality. They try to prevent a bank robbery but fail. However, they pursue the crooks, capture them, and recover the money, thus reinforcing the legend.

1885--BACK TO THE FUTURE III--Time traveler Doctor Emmett Brown is stranded in this time period in Hill Valley, CA until his friend Marty McFly comes back to rescue him.

1885--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES--"Mole Man Mine"--Bud Sr. and Lou Sr. are prospectors who face a giant mole man.

1886--THE THREE TROUBLEDOERS--Based on the legend that has been created around the trio in the old west, the trio become lawmen in another town. A villain named Badlands Blackie kidnaps the father of a girl named Nell in order to blackmail the girl into marrying him. Nell promises her hand to Curly if the trio can rescue her father. They succeed, but when the father learns of Nell's promise, he chooses death. Fortunately, the arrangement is called off in order to keep the father from committing suicide.

1887--OUT WEST--The trio still out west come to the aid of the heroic ARIZONA KID. This is actually a crossover.

Summer 1887--THE LONE RANGER (COMIC STRIP)--"Gold on the Mississippi"--The Lone Ranger meets Samuel Clemens.

1889--A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT--Hank Morgan meets Samuel Clemens and passes on to him his tale of time travel.

1890s--PARADISE--Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson appear. Since they are played by the same actors, and those original shows were aired in the 1960s, and this series aired in the 1980s, and since the bulk of those old westerns were taking place in the 1870s, I'm making an assumption this series takes place in the 1890s. Incidentally, this may be the Paradise, CA that later becomes known as Paradise City, "where the grass is green and the girls are pretty", and where "CAPTAIN AMERICA" is torn apart in the 1980s. (In the Wronskiverse, an alternate reality of my creation, this connection is indeed correct, but for the TVCU, I can only speculate.) If indeed there was a 1980s Captain America in Paradise City, it would likely be a government sponsored replacement Cap, since Rogers is still frozen in the ice.

1890--PUNCHY COWPUNCHERS--The trio are bartenders still living in the west.

1891--MERRY MAVERICKS--Still considered to be legendary lawmen, the trio are hired to protect some money while hiding out inside a house thought to be haunted. When the crooks come after the money, the trio use the haunting legends to their advantage to subdue the crooks.

1891--GOLD RAIDERS--Once again the trio are hired as lawmen, this time by a mine insurer, who needs assistance in protecting the mines from crooks.

1891--THE TOOTH WILL OUT--The trio pretend to be dentists, and do a job of the quality you would expect. Unfortunately, the first customer is a dangerous outlaw.

Fall 1893--STAR TREK:  THE NEXT GENERATION--"Time's Arrow"--Samuel Clemens and Jack London encounter visitors from the 24th century's U.S.S. Enterprise.

May 1894--THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY, JR.--"Stagecoach"--Brisco County (that's not where he's from...that's his name) escorts a prisoner, Emma Steed and also encounters American agent Ashenden.



1894--PALS AND GALS--The trio must again rescue a group of sisters from a dastardly villain.

1894--SHOT IN THE FRONTIER--The trio are courting three girls who are also courted by three outlaws.

Fall 1935--THE GREEN HORNET (RADIO)--The Green Hornet makes his debut with the help of his partner Kato.  This series replaced to previous series featuring WARNER LESTER, MANHUNTER and DR. FANG.  In the final episodes of both, the stars of each battle to the death.  Lester's sidekick Mike Axford would later appear on THE GREEN HORNET radio series.  It should be noted that it is well established throughout the radio show that the Green Hornet is the nephew of THE LONE RANGER.  At one point someone asks Reid about a picture on his wall of a masked man on a white horse.  He responds that it is his uncle while the William Tell Overture (theme music of THE LONE RANGER) plays.

February 1954--BEWITCHED--"George Washington Zapped Here"--Esmerelda pulls George Washington from the past.  President Washington also appears in THE MUNSTERS, THE MUPPET SHOW:  SEX AND VIOLENCE, VOYAGERS, WILD WILD WEST, FUTURAMA, TIME SQUAD, and AN AMERICAN CAROL.

Summer 1967--THE GREEN HORNET CHRONICLES--"Mutual Assured Destruction"--Story by Bill Spangler.  The Green Hornet mentions his uncle, THE LONE RANGER.

Spring 1968--THE GREEN HORNET CHRONICLES--"Flight of the Yellowjacket"--Story by Howard Hopkins.  In this story we encounter two descendants of Butch Cavendish, legendary enemy of THE LONE RANGER.  Note that recently a follow-up called the Green Hornet Casefiles was published.  I have yet to read it, and don't know the content or where it fits on the chronology, but since the same group of scholars are authoring this book, I'm sure it's chock full of crossovers and fits into this timeline nicely.

Early 1993 to later 1996--KUNG FU:  THE LEGEND CONTINUES--OK, not part of the wild west era, but this is a continuation/spin-off of a western, that features Kwai Chang Caine's grandchildren, one a priest, and his son, a cop.  In one episode of the series, the grandson travels back in time to the original Caine's body and encounters CHEYENNE Bodie.  (Incidentally, BRONCO and THE DAKOTAS are spin-offs of Cheyenne.)

July 2002--DEAD ZONE--"Unreasonable Doubt"--A juror introduces himself as Ben Cartwright, but not THE Ben Cartwright of the Ponderosa.  Apparently, the Cartwright family really made a name for themselves in history.

The Story: As John Taylor and his friends return to the present, they find that John’s mother, Lilith, is gathering a powerful army to take over the Nightside and return it to the way she meant it to be when she created it. Apparently that’s bad.

Notes: The Yellow Sign is on a bathroom wall. Taylor’s secretary is armed with a Kandarian punch dagger. Kandarian demons are from the Evil Dead series. Suzie Shooter fights using a Colonial Marine smart gun that she got from the future. At least it must be from one of the possible futures that contains the Alien film series. Lilith’s army is claimed to have wiped out the Elder Spawn (code for Old Ones), though this is not likely to be true. The train runs to the Street of the Gods, the setting if Green’s Hawk & Fisher series. There are three Doctor Who references in this one. A sonic screwdriver has been left behind the bar counter at Strangefellows. John mentions the Travelling Doctor as a potential ally and Father Time blames the Travelling Doctor for attire. It’s said that some drunk flower fairies plan on beating up some water babies. Water Babies is a story by Reverend Charles Kingsley. Taylor suggests nobody go into the basement of Strangefellows without the Holy Hand Grenade of St. Antioch. This is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. (Shame on you if you didn’t know that.) Since the Nightside touches other realities, I don’t have to explain how this Monty Python fits in with the Horror Universe and Arthurian legend. But I’m going to anyways. Legend has it that Merlin himself was a temporal anomaly, aging backwards and living life in reverse, from future to past. Perhaps because of this, several divergent versions of Camelot and the Arthurian legend all existed in the same past of the Horror Universe timeline. This would explain how different versions are seen in so many past stories, flashbacks, time travel tales, and modern stories. This type of reasoning may offer the same types of reasoning for the heavily magical era of fairy tales. The dormouse appears, having doorways to many realms. He claims that there were more of his kind once, but they all went away. Shadows Fall is mentioned as one of the destinations of the dormouse's doors and a train destination. Father Time appears and is from Shadows Fall. Carcosa is mentioned as behind one of the doors and as a train destination. Carcosa is from “An Inhabitant of Carcosa”. The Nightside has a store called Alf’s Button Emporium. No, this is not a reference to the cute alien who eats cats. It’s actually based on a humorous 1920 novel. Julien Advent meets fairy tale characters expelled from their homes by the Adversary. These are the fairy tale characters from the Fables comic book, making that fairy tale realm part of the Horror Multiverse. (Sorry, Once Upon a Time. I know you have a Frankenstein, but who doesn’t? You never gave me a valid horror cross to pull you in.) This novel cements the idea that Julien Advent is Adam Adamant. The Eaters of the Dead (from the Michael Crichton novel) are said to have been wiped out by Lilith’s army. The same is said of the Worms of the Earth, who Bran Mak Morn once faced. John is attacked by a gun stolen from the grave of Dead Eye Dick, a character from the western television series The Virginian. The Collector is seen wearing the jacket of Number Six from the Prisoner. He says he also bought his car.

Late September 2008--HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER--"The Best Burger in New York"--Your uncle Toby points out that Regis Philbin appears in this episode as himself.  Using his rule called "the League of Themselves", which he discusses here, this connects HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER to other shows such as "All My Children", "One Life to Live", "Primetime Glick", "The Famous Jett Jackson", "LateLine", "Caroline in the City", "Style and Substance", "Second Noah", "Soul Man", Marry Me (1997 TV movie), "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", "Hope & Gloria", "Women of the House", "The Cosby Mysteries", "The Larry Sanders Show", "Seinfeld", "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues", "Mad About You", "Number 96", "Spin City", "Lilo & Stitch: The Series", "The Simpsons", and "Family Guy".  This episode is also the first appearance of Goliath National Bank.  Your uncle James has provided me with this info:  So, make of this How I Met Your Mother theory what you will, but TVTropes argues that the company Barney works for--Altrucell--is actually a front for COBRA.

To hide certain aspects of its operation, Cobra maintains a number of legitimate business fronts (in addition to the town of Springfield itself and its encompassing businesses) nearly all of which appear to be anagrams of the word "cobra".
Naja Trading Corp and its likely subsidiary, "Naja Hanna Video Corp", is the first of these fronts to appear in the comics. It has offices in both San Francisco as well as Rio Lindo in the Republic of Sierra Gordo. Cobra used it to smuggle MX missile guidance chips out of the country inside video games. Dr. Venom was in charge of the Rio Lindo office. "Naja Hanna" is Hindi for "King Cobra".[5]
Arbco (AKA ARBco Regional) is the largest and most prominent Cobra front in the Marvel RAH comics. Although it apparently started in Springfield, it grew to have offices in at least 10 major U.S. cities including Denver.
Arbco Furniture Company: Cobra maintained a secret testing lab within for a deadly plague toxin in Springfield, Vermont.[6]

Carbo Plumbing: A surveillance team of Tele-Vipers eavesdrop on a military inquest from a plumbing van outside the Pentagon.[10]

Extensive Enterprises - This global company based out of the twin Enterprise Towers in Enterprise City existed primarily to serve Cobra's administrative needs with Tomax and Xamot as the corporation's CEOs. Its first appearance was in the third G.I. Joe miniseries and then in the regular TV series in the episide "Red Rocket's Glare". Although the company existed primarily in the TV universe, it would later be adapted by Devil's Due for use in the comics continuity as well. In the IDW comic continuity, it is a pre-existing, corrupt multinational firm that is absorbed into Cobra.
M.A.R.S.- Military Armaments Research Systems/Syndicate - a legitimate weapons manufacturing firm headquartered in Callender, Scotland. James McCullen Destro XXIV is the current owner and CEO.

The Story: Still recovering from the events of the previous novel, he Droods find themselves at war with soul eating demons trying to bring their masters into their reality.

Notes: The Droods have a mirror created by Merlin. This mirror has also appeared in the Nightside series. Harry Fabulous from the Nightside series appears. Jimmy Thunder from Drinking Midnight Wine appears. There is a reference to the many-angled ones. This was a creation of Grant Morrison that first appeared in the 2000 AD comic, and has been incorporated into the Cthulhu Mythos. The Droods’ time train once was used to travel back in time to prevent an Old One from rising, but in doing so, caused the Old One to rise. There is a bar called Cafe Night, that was formerly called Renfield’s. Presumedly, it was owned by a descendent of Dracula’s servant. Eddie destroys a couple of Baron Frankenstein’s creations. This works with Mark Brown’s theory that there have been many monsters created by the Frankensteins, explaining why there are so many different versions tied to the same shared reality. There is a monk claiming to be Melmoth the Wanderer, though Eddie doubts it, as he has met many who claimed to be Melmoth. Melmoth comes from the story of the same name about a scholar who sells his soul for an extra 150 years of life. Eddie also claims to have met many Draculas. This supports both Chuck Loridans’ soul clone theory and my own Sons of the Dragon theory. Additionally, he claims to have met many Fausts. Though it doesn’t support any theories, it does explain why Felix Faust , enemy of the Justice League of America, has two separate origins in DC canon. Originally, he was just a mortal man in the 1960s raising demons for power. Later, he claimed to be the original Faust. Eddie mentions having worked with a French demon hunter named Mallorie. This may be a reference to the film Bloody Mallory. This story gives an origin for the Kandarian demons from the Evil Dead series. Originally they were humans who allowed themselves to be possessed by demons to become unstoppable, but they then turned on each other. Vril Power, Inc. is mentioned as an enemy of the Droods. Leonard Ash from Shadows Fall appears. The Celestials are mentioned. They first appeared in the Eternals Marvel comic. A “rogue” Drood returns home via Dr. Syn’s Fly by Night Delivery Service. The delivery service is also transporting Elwood P. Dowd and his invisible giant rabbit friend, Harvey. Eddie travels to the future to recruit Giles Deathstalker as an ally. Giles is revealed to be a descendant of the Drood family. The Drood armory has an 1880s Moon Launch Canon, a reference to First Men in the Moon. They also have an oversized Moleship, a reference to Pellucidar. Another item in the armory is a giant mechanical spider created by a mad man in the wild west. This is the giant mechanical spider used by Dr. Lovelace in the feature film Wild, Wild West. This means that both the television series and the film are in the same shared reality. The time train used by Eddie to visit the future can do the Kessel run in under five centuries. The “Kessel Run” is located in the Star Wars galaxy.

Summer 2010--THE GREEN HORNET--Another of the Reids takes on the mantle of Green Hornet with the aid of another Kato.  (There could be arguments that this film should be an alternate universe, but then was not the 1960s television series meant to be a remake, not a continuation?  But yet a little bit of creativity turned the Green Hornet into a generational hero to explain it away.  And that same generational reasoning is why I include this new film into continuity.  Note that in this film, Kato, who likes to draw, has a picture of Bruce Lee in his sketch book.  Bruce Lee played Kato in the 1960s TV show.  This isn't a "zonk" as I already explained.  In the 1960s, Batman and Robin would watch THE GREEN HORNET on TV, even though they had also worked with them.  The show was just a fictionalized version of the duo.  Additionally, This Britt Reid (though perhaps not his real name) also has a poster of the Lone Ranger on his wall, just as the first Britt Reid did.  The Lone Ranger was the uncle of the first Green Hornet, and thus a relative of this one as well.

I just watched the Bob Hope comedy Alias Jesse James (1959). At the very end Hope is saved from the James Gang by a litany of Western Heroes: James Garner as Bret Maverick; Fess Parker as Davy Crockett; Gary Cooper as Will Kane from High Noon; Roy Rogers; Bing Crosby; Jay Silverheels as Tonto; Hugh O'Brian as Wyatt Earp; James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon; Ward Bond as Major Seth Adams; and Gail Davis as Annie Oakley.

The presence of Bing Crosby, and the smart remark he makes about how hopeless Hope is, makes me think that the Bing and Bob seen in this movie are the same two who would later end up traveling the world through all of the Road To... pictures.

Between Alias Jessie James and the Gambler Movie, we have almost all of the classic Western Heroes in the TVCU/WNU.

I just watched the 1988 film Sunset, which was a rather delightful murder mystery/western; an elderly Wyatt Earp (James Gardner) and a young Tom Mix (Bruce Willis) get tangled in a number of mysteries. Fun movie. There are two crossovers worth paying attention to. First, Laurel and Hardy are at the Academy Awards dinner. In The Beverly Hillbillies, Jethro had a perfect mania for the Kit-Kat Club and Kit-Kat Girls. While there *is* a real life Kit-Kat Club, it was founded in 1993, long after the productions of both The Beverly Hilbillies and Sunset. Therefore, Earp and Jethro visited the same Kit-Kat Club.

Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe...there was the DC Animated Universe. I just saw "the Once and Future Thing", an episode of Justice League Unlimited, which of course is a continuation of Justice League, which was a spin-off of both Batman the Animated Series and Superman the Animated Series, and which crosses over in that episode with Batman Beyond and Static Shock. If only they had found a way to include Zeta Project, they would have tied together every DCAU show in one story. But they did manage to throw in the DC Western heroes for good measure, and due to a shifting timeline due to Chronos, we got to see John Stewart temporarily replaced by Hal Jordan (who never became Green Lantern in that reality.) I personally consider that a crossover with Super Friends, but that's just me.

Danny Trejo cameos as a killer with a machete. He's unnamed--and, though he's choked unconscious, he survives. I'd say something like, "And he's dressed like Machete," but unless Danny Trejo's in the old west he's always dressed like Machete. Still, it's Machete.

The movie is on Netflix, and I highly recommend it. Mark Hamill has fun playing a version of Ledger's Joker.

The Future...

2268--ISHMAEL--At the Wonder Bar at Starbase 12, Han Solo (STAR WARS) is present, fighting with Starbuck and Apollo (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA).  They were fighting over Sarah Jane Smith, who then leaves with the Doctor (DOCTOR WHO).  Solo is from another galaxy in the distant past.  Starbuck and Apollo are from the 1970s on a journey from their homeworld to Earth.  It's likely the Doctor is responsible for bringing them all here, and it's presumed he got them all home.  Note that this is the Doctor of the TVCU, and not the main version of the character who exists in the Universe I named after him.  Kirk makes a comment about Sherlock Holmes, his relationship to Spock.  Two Hokas are also seen (EARTHMAN'S BURDEN).  They are cute living teddy bears.  The main portion involves Spock traveling back in time (not with the Doctor) and meeting the Stemples (HERE COME THE BRIDES).  Other western characters encountered are from PALADIN/HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL, BONANZA and MAVERICK.  There is also an apperance of Straus and Sons which comes from James Clavell's Asian Saga:  SHOGUN, TAI-PAN, GAI-JIN, KING RAT, NOBLE HOUSE, WHIRLWIND, and ESCAPE.

I have to say, for this one, I got most info from Poobala, and Wikipedia.  I was never much of a fan of westerns, but there are sooooooooooooo many crossovers that link these westerns together, and these westerns are all part of the history of the TVCU, so it needed to be covered.

Since my sources came from only a few sources, I purposely have chosen to not go into great detail, as to elaborate further without much personal knowledge of these shows would involve me having to copy the works of my sources in such detail that would borderline on plagiarism.  I suggest you go to the websites (especially Poobala) listed on the side of this blog.
