Hey Stella! STELLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! A Streetcar Named Desire
"In 1947, when Marlon Brando appeared on stage in a torn, sweaty T-shirt, there was an earthquake; and the male as sex object is still at our culture's center stage. In the age of Calvin Klein steaming hunks, it must be hard for [kids today] to realize that there was ever a time when a man was nothing but a suit of clothes, a shirt and tie, shined leather shoes, and a gray, felt hat."
1947--A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE--Disturbed Blanche DuBois moves in with her sister in New Orleans and is tormented by her brutish brother-in-law while her reality crumbles around her. IMDB, ever conflating minor characters, seems to think that the sailor from A Streetcar Named Desire is the same sailor (played over the decades by different actors) from After Many Years (1908), His Wife's Sweethearts (1910), Dublin Dan (1912), A Healthy Neighborhood (1913), Midnight Madness (1928), The Ship of Lost Men (1929), F. P. 1 Doesn't Answer (1933), Rainbow Ranch (1933), We the Living (1942), Hamlet Part 1 (1947), The Cockleshell Heroes (1955), Never on Sunday (1960), Malpertuis (1971), "The Scarlet Letter" (1979), La dottoressa preferisce i marinai (1981), Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (1995), Sand Bride (1998), and Dido & Aeneas (2005).
1947--L.A. NOIRE--Elysian Fields is referenced in the 2011 video game L.A. Noire. It is a housing development for returning WWII veterans in 1947 Los Angeles. Poorly constructed from substandard materials, it is intended to be burned down as part of an insurance scheme by the builders.
THE HAND THAT CREATES (NOVEL BY OCTAVIO ARAGAO)
Release Date: 2006 (Setting is 19th century)
Horror Crosses: Island of Doctor Moreau; Frankenstein (Octavio Aragao); Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos
Non-Horror Crosses: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea; A Woman of Thirty; Journey to the Centre of the Earth; Tarzan; From the Earth to the Moon; A Streetcar Named Desire; The Man From Atlantis; Conan the Barbarian
The Story: Jules Verne becomes the first president of France, and the city of Paris becomes a mecca for the greatest scientists.
Notes: This story takes place in an alternate universe, but because it does feature Moreau and the mythos, it must be in the Horror Multiverse. When it comes to worldview issues, it’s a fine line. But Verne as President of France would have a huge historical impact, as is demonstrated in this story, that would alter the present day Horror Universe.
