SCOOBY-PRIME: THE ORIGINAL SATURDAY MORNING TIMELINE .. AND SCRAPPY TOO!
So Ivan and I are working on all the different timelines where Scooby is a central player. There's like six or seven.
This started with me trying to place Scooby-Doo in the Television Crossover Universe. Once the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia was completed, it was clear that there was more than one reality with Scooby-Doo in existence. My current work with the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia has further led me to that conclusion.
Recently, Ivan and I recorded our first episode of the new Random Fandom podcast which focused on Scooby-Doo Team-Up, and this inspired Ivan and I to work on the Five Scoobies Project. Over the next few weeks or months, Ivan and I will be working on separate timelines for the various Scooby Universes.

Tonight, I begin on the final of the timelines, ironically going back to the beginning.
Tonight we'll be discussing the original Scooby-Doo timeline. This we'll call the Scooby-Prime Universe. It's not the TVCU or Cartoon Universe, but it's certainly part of the same multiverse.
Here, all the original Saturday morning cartoons are canon, as well as the animated films of the 1980s. This is the era of Scrappy, Scooby-Dum and Scooby-Dee, Vincent Van Ghoul, Dynomutt, the Boo Brothers, and lots of stars of the 1970s.
What we will not include in this timeline is Laff-A-Lympics, nor will we cover Scooby's appearances outside of the regular Scooby series, which wouldn't be part of the series canon. So none of the Kids All-Stars to the Rescue type stuff.
Even though this timeline only runs through two decades, it's still a timeline which operates in "cartoon time" based on the slower aging of the kids. But in this timeline, the kids do eventually grow up.
THE ORIGINAL SATURDAY MORNING TIMELINE
1942--As Raclaw, Ivan publically defeats a demon at the Arkham Train Depot using his Tillinghast Generator, creating a bit of a sensation. Several people start trying to build their own 'spirit box' devices. Ultimately Ivan accidentally founds a Ghostbusters franchise in 1942, though he is careful not to use that name; he refers to them as Ghost Breakers and his many recruits, most of whom are Miskatonic University students, set up their headquarters on campus. Alarmed that he might draw the attention of the real Raclaw Schablotski's still-living relatives in Massachusetts, Ivan insists on making engineering professor Basil Dinkley the public head of the "Ghost Breakers Club". After they've been active for about a month, the group is contacted by Larry Lawrence who claims to represent the 'official' Ghost Breakers and threatens to sue, prompting Ivan and Raymond to rename their group "The Real Ghost Breakers". Tillinghast Generator and Miskatonic University are elements of Lovecraft's Mythos Cycle of stories, specifically FROM BEYOND(1920) and HERBERT WEST-REANIMATOR(1922). Basil Dinkley is related to Velma Dinkley from SCOOBY DOO, WHERE ARE YOU (1969) and other cartoons, though he cannot be the same Dr. Basil Von Dinkenstein Velma claims was her great great uncle in SCOOBY DOO! FRANKENCREEPY (2014) as that Basil was said to be the monster maker who inspired Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN novel in the 1800s. Larry Lawrence is from the 1940 film GHOST BREAKERS, an adaptation of an earlier play The Ghost Breaker (1909). The Real Ghost Breakers is a play on the animated Ghostbusters cartoon titled THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS due to an already existing Ghostbusters television property. Ghostbusters, of course, reflects both the Filmation GHOST BUSTERS property and the Sony GHOSTBUSTERS property.
1964?--A PUP NAMED SCOOBY-DOO--I'm not sure if this should be included. It is a Saturday Morning cartoon, and the final Scooby series of the 1980s, running from 1988 to 1991. There is a TVCU divergent timeline for the trend of the "babyfication" of older cartoon characters, and perhaps I should do a future post about that timeline.
BATMAN (TELEVISION SERIES)--Batman and Robin protect Gotham City from various bizarre criminals. For this timeline's purposes, this dynamic duo is Bruce Wayne as Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin. The Batusi was seen in two episodes of the original Batman TV series. The first, "Hi Diddle Riddle," was the series' first episode and originally aired January 12, 1966. The second, "The Pharaoh's in a Rut," was the 28th episode and originally aired April 14, 1966. It has reappeared in many television shows, including two episodes of The Simpsons, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Everybody Loves Raymond, and Shaggy refers to the dance in an episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! It has also been in movies such as Pulp Fiction, Antz, and Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt. The cover of the DC comic Solo #7 featured a drawing of Wonder Girl in mid-Batusi. The cover (by writer/artist Mike Allred) was originally meant to be one of the Adam West TV Batman in the same pose. However, due to unspecified tensions regarding DC's relationship with the company that produced the 1960s TV show, Allred was forced to submit a different cover for the issue. The Batusi is mentioned in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "Mayhem of the Music Meister!" during the song "Drives us bats!". The Batusi is performed by character Fox Mulder in the 2016 episode of The X-Files, "Babylon".
THE ADVENTURES OF BATMAN--The Adventures of Batman is an animated television series produced by Lou Schiemer's Filmation studios. It showcased the 12-minute Batman segments from The Batman/Superman Hour, sometimes broken up by and surrounding another cartoon from Filmation's fast-growing stream of superhero stars. A re-branded 30-minute version premiered on CBS on September 13, 1968 as Batman with Robin the Boy Wonder. This version was repackaged without the Superman and Superboy segments. Olan Soule was the voice of Batman and is most likely best remembered for his work on that show, and many others in the Filmation stable. Casey Kasem, notable for his voice over and radio work, was the voice of Robin. Batman and Robin would next appear in a The New Scooby-Doo Movies crossover, various versions of Super Friends (featuring Soule and Kasem reprising their Batman and Robin roles, respectively) and The New Adventures of Batman in 1977.
SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? - THE BEGINNING OF MYSTERY, INC. AND THE TREND OF MYSTERY SOLVING TEENS AND THEIR MASCOTS
September 13, 1969 - November 4, 1978--SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU! (ANIMATED SERIES)--A group of teenagers and their talking dog go around solving mysteries which always involves debunking a fake haunting. For the purposes of this timeline, most Scooby series from 1969 to 1989 are all part of the main Scooby-Doo! series. This series is followed by The New Scooby-Doo Movies in 1972. It was remade as a live action movie in 2002. The series has been referenced and spoofed numerous times in film and television. Note that the series was cancelled in 1970 after its second season, replaced by its next incarnation, but was revived in its original form for a third season in 1978.

This episode places the original Jekyll and Hyde as real, and thus we must assume a version of the original novel also took place in the Scooby-Prime Universe.

September 15, 1972--SEASON 1 EPISODE 2 “THE DYNAMIC SCOOBY-DOO AFFAIR”--Animated Series Crosses: The Adventures of Batman. Mystery, Inc. teams-up with Batman and Robin to foil the counterfeiting ring run by the Joker and the Penguin. The Adventures of Batman is an animated continuation of the 1960s live action Batman series.
September 22, 1972--SEASON 1 EPISODE 3 “WEDNESDAY IS MISSING”--Animated Series Crosses: The Addams Family (Animated). The gang get their van stuck in front of the Addams home, and end up taking care of the kids while Gomez and Morticia take a vacation. This cross brings The Addams Family animated series in. The version of the Addams Family here is reminiscent of the original comic, but is a tie-in with the animated series that is a continuation of the live-action series. However, this does not bring in the live action version. We must assume that a version of the live action show and comic strip may have existed in the Scooby-Prime Universe, but only the animated series is canon for the Scooby-Prime Universe.
September 29, 1972 --SEASON 1 EPISODE 4 “THE FRICKERT FRACAS”--Crosses: Maude Frickert. The gang stays at a farm with Jonathan Winters and Maude Frickert, and are menaced by a scarecrow. Maude Frickert was a popular character played by comedian Jonathan Winters in his stand-up and on sketch comedy shows. This crossover only brings in an animated version of the character and not her live-action appearances.

November 18, 1972 --SEASON 1 EPISODE 11 “THE GHOST OF THE RED BARON”--Animated Series Crosses: Three Stooges (Animated). Curly is a dust cropper who has to deal with the ghost of the Red Baron with the help of the other Stooges and Mystery, Inc. This episode aired on the day I was born.
November 25, 1972--SEASON 1 EPISODE 12 “THE GHOSTLY CREEP FROM THE DEEP”--Animated Series Crosses: Harlem Globetrotters (Animated); South Park. Mystery, Inc. works with the Harlem Globetrotters when on a ship with pirate ghosts. The Harlem Globetrotters was a real basketball team famous for entertaining but not legal basketball tricks. However, they later got their own animated series, and I consider this a cross with that series. Weirdly, both the Globetrotters and the Stooges, who also met Mystery, Inc., would end up becoming super-heroes with bionic parts. The pirate ghosts (or ghost pirates) would later reappear on the South Park episode Korn’s Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery. I definitely count this crossover. In general, South Park has very few parody crossovers featuring fictional characters (unlike Family Guy). They mostly poke fun at real celebrities. That strengthens my resolve in considering the crossover valid.
September 8, 1973 - December 22, 1973--THE ADDAMS FAMILY (ANIMATED SERIES)--More tales of the Addams Family. This is a continuation of the live action series, and this series has crossed with the New Scooby-Doo Movies. The art is based on the original comic strip, but this does not bring in the comic strip. Note that the children should be teens even though they are still portrayed as younger. This is because they are operating in "cartoon time", consistent with this timeline. This continues in the 1977 live action TV Movie, Halloween with the New Addams Family. This cartoon has been referenced in Caroline in the City and Family Guy, both as fictional.
September 15, 1973--SEASON 2 EPISODE 2 “THE HAUNTED SHOWBOAT”--Animated Series Crosses: Josie and the Pussycats (Animated). Mystery, Inc. find themselves aboard a showboat where Josie and the Pussycats are booked to perform. When ghosts appear, the two groups of teens join together to solve the mystery. This brings in the animated version of Josie and the Pussycats (and Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space) but not necessarily the comic books from which the characters originate.
September 22, 1973--SEASON 2 EPISODE 3 “SCOOBY-DOO MEETS JEANNIE (AKA MYSTERY IN PERSIA)”--Animated Series Crosses: Jeannie (Animated). Jeanie transports Mystery, Inc. back to ancient Egypt to solve a mystery. This crossover brings the animated Jeanie into the Scooby-Prime Universe. This Jeanie was not the same from I Dream of Jeannie.

Two groups of teens and their talking dog and car try to determine why people are fleeing their town. This brings in the animated Speed Buggy, which is about a living, talking, intelligent, animate car.
October 20, 1973--SEASON 2 EPISODE 7--"The Haunted Candy Factory"--Guest Starring Cass Elliot
October 27, 1973--NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES--"Scooby-Doo Meets Dick Van Dyke"--Apparently, there was a plan to reuse footage from this episode as a dream sequence where Doctor Sloan (DIAGNOSIS MURDER) meets Scooby-Doo. That would imply that the Dick Van Dyke seen in this episode isn't the actor, but is instead Doctor Sloan.
BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD (ANIMATED SERIES)--Seasoned hero Batman teams with all the other heroes of his world. This series in not, I repeat not, part of the Scooby-Prime Universe. But it is included for a story below that I do consider part of the canon. In a few episodes of the series, Bat-Mite has demonstrated how there is a large number of alternate timelines. One of those, in which Batman teams up with Scooby-Doo, is more likely the Scooby-Prime Universe timeline, while this series is a divergent timeline which seems to be designated “Earth-23”.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 25 “BAT-MITE PRESENTS: BATMAN’S STRANGEST CASES!”--Animated Series Crosses: Scooby-Doo!; Mad; Adventures of Batman. Other Crosses: Bat-Manga. Bat-Mite presents three tales from alternate realities. In this instance, the Scooby-Prime Universe is one of those alternate realities. As explained in the previous entry, the Brave and the Bold series is a divergent timeline to the Scooby-Prime Universe. But from their perspective, the Scooby-Prime Universe is the divergent timeline. The Scooby-Prime Universe story is a sequel to the Batman appearances in the New Scooby-Doo Movies in the 1970s. The other two stories take place in the world of Mad Magazine parodies and the world of Manga. It’s likely those are also divergent realities in the Scooby-Doo Multiverse.

1976 to 1978--THE SCOOBY-DOO SHOW--This show was part of a Scooby-Doo two hour block that included Laff-A-Lympics and Dynomutt. The show introduced Scooby-Dum and Scooby-Dee and also Scooby guest-starred on Dynomutt in three episodes of Dynomutt's series. Preceded by The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972–1973) and Followed by Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (1979–1980)
SCOOBY-DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED (ANIMATED SERIES)--SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 “MYSTERY SOLVERS CLUB STATE FINALS”--Animated Series Crosses: Funky Phantom; Speed Buggy; Jabberjaw; Captain Caveman. When Scooby is sick, he is disappointed about missing the Mystery Solvers Club State Finals. He has a dream in which he does go, and teams up with the mascots of other mystery solving teens to stop a villain who turns out to be the Funky Phantom. The ending leaves it ambiguous if this was a dream or not. However, Speed Buggy already exists in the Scooby-Prime Universe timeline so I’m going to go with the implication that these events happened or at the very least that all of these characters exist in this timeline and thus have counterparts back in the Scooby-Prime Universe timeline. This would add Funky Phantom, Jabberjaw (that actually would take place in an alternate future timeline), and Captain Caveman to the Scooby-Prime Universe timeline. This episode’s dream sequence was animated in the classic style of Scooby-Doo, Where are You!

September 22, 1979 - January 5, 1980--SCOOBY-DOO AND SCRAPPY-DOO (ANIMATED SERIES)--The Mystery, Inc. gang gets joined by Scooby’s very hyper nephew Scrappy-Doo. This series was a continuation of the previous two series mentioned (Scooby-Doo, Where are You? and the New Scooby-Doo Movies). In this series, Scrappy gets added to the cast to boost ratings, which were slipping. As if it wasn’t hard enough to explain Scooby, we now are faced with an unaging puppy who is more articulate than his uncle. The Scooby-Doo live action film, though not included in the Scooby-Prime Universe canon, does at least offer an explanation that Scrappy wasn’t a puppy, but merely suffered from a pituitary gland issue. And of course he can talk because talking dogs are normal. Actually, Scrappy is part of Scooby’s family, descended from aliens that posed as gods and interbred with Earth animals. That was explained in Mysteroy Incorporated, which isn't part of this timeline, but it's the only explanation tha's ever been offered. This show is continued into the 1980 Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show. This series is spoofed in the 2002 live action Scooby-Doo film and has been referenced as fictional and in homage in numerous films and on television.
November 8, 1980 to October 31, 1981--THE RICHIE RICH/SCOOBY-DOO SHOW--Packaged together, Richie and Scooby do not actually have any crossovers.
November 8, 1980 – December 18, 1982--SCOOBY-DOO AND SCRAPPY-DOO--The series was cancelled and replaced with another series of the same name. This incarnation is different than the last one in that in the previous one, Mystery Inc was still part of the show, and now it's just Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy. Also, we start seeing real monsters instead of men in masks.
September 25, 1982 to December 18, 1982--THE SCOOBY AND SCRAPPY-DOO PUPPY HOUR--Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy travel the world doing various things. Unlike its predecessors, this is not a mystery series.
September 10, 1983 – December 1, 1984--THE NEW SCOOBY AND SCRAPPY-DOO SHOW--Daphne returns, now a journalist.
September 8, 1984 to December 1, 1984--THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERIES--An updated version of the classic Hannah-Barbera mystery cartoon. The story for this series is about the same as for the older series, with one major change: the Mystery Machine gang is now joined by Scooby's nephew, Scrappy Doo. Unlike his uncle, Scrappy is constantly looking for a fight, and it is all Scooby and Shaggy can do to keep him from hurtling head-on into every ghost and monster they encounter. Of course, after doing a little investigating, most of these ghosts and monsters turn out to be not so scary after all.
1984—The New Scooby-Doo Mystery—“Sherlock Doo”--As all magazines must, sooner or later, Mystery Solvers Magazine holds its first annual Mystery Solvers Contest. And what better place could there be to hold it but old 221 Baker Street? Best intentioned contests oft go awry. First, someone in the magazine’s leadership decided that “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle” had gone unsolved and decided it was best to settle an entire contest around a long-since-solved case. Second, someone dressed as a very ectoplasmic Holmes swiped the Crown Jewels (as, seemingly, all criminals must, at one time or another). Mystery Inc., sans Velma and plus Scrappy, steps in and solves the already-solved case and the “ghost” of the Master Detective. The grumpy old man this week was none other than Mr. Stapleton, out for revenge on the part of his ancestor, who perished during The Hound of the Baskervilles.
September 13, 1986 - December 19, 1987--POUND PUPPIES (ANIMATED SERIES)--The Puppies live at a pound where they can come and go through a secret tunnel. Aided by their friend Holly, they constantly try to outwit their evil guardian and her equally evil daughter. The 1980s, more than any other decade, was the era of children’s entertainment created for the purposes of selling toys. In that tradition, the Pound Puppies were based on a line of popular stuffed animals.
November 8, 1986--SEASON 1 EPISODE 9 “SECRET AGENT PUP”--Animated Series Crosses: Scooby-Doo! When Bright Eyes is kidnapped by foreign spies, the others must go to the rescue. One of the heads on Mount Muttmore is Scooby-Doo.
1987--SCOOBY-DOO MEETS THE BOO BROTHERS--Sorrell Booke voices the role of a bungling, southern sheriff, much like his character Boss Hogg on The Dukes of Hazard. This could exist in the Scooby-Prime Universe in 1987 (where aging doesn't matter) but the Boss Hogg link is enough to make it onto a TVCU blog post, but not strong enough for the stricter standards I uphold for the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia. Also, within a book within the story, the Ghostbusters symbol is seen on a page, indicating that Mystery, Inc. and the "real" Ghostbusters are considered to be in the same league.
JUL 28, 1987 - LIKE A SURGEON - Beauford "Ford" O'Donald, a classmate of Jack Kingsley from Belfry, New Jersey, turns up in Oldham Asylum in LeStrange KY, after a run-in with the Church of the Sleeping God. Jack and Peter Fitzhume Sr pose as psychiatrists to see him, with Ron tagging along, posing as their intern. Ford reveals to them that the Church was scouting areas around the country for a powerful ritual, under the guise of being roadies for Weird Al Yankovic and the Monkees (Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, and Davy Jones) on their concert tour (currently in Louisville). The cultists are exposed and flee. Jack claims to be Ford's personal doctor to have him transferred to the Dunwich Mental Institute, but instead O'Donald joins the Enigma Quorum to help track down the cult's chosen location, which he knows must be near by. Ron Schablotski is so impressed by Yankovic (of whom he was already a fan) that he adopts a most unfortunate hairstyle for a time, and will later use the nickname "Crazy Ivan" in homage to "Weird Al". Davy Jones of the Monkees and Weird Al Yankovic have both met Mystery Inc. in animated form; on a 1972 episode of THE NEW SCOOBY DOO MOVIES called "The Haunted Houseman of Hagglethorn Hall" and a 2011 episode of BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD titled "Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases" respectively (the latter crossover also involving Batman, Robin, the Joker, the Penguin, and Bat-Mite). Additionally, The Monkees have met the Penguin, Dracula, and other fictional figures on various episodes of their own show, THE MONKEES (1966-1968). Dunwich Mental Institute is from a 2008 episode of FRINGE. Ford O'Donald, Belfry, Lestrange, Oldham Asylum, and the Church of the Sleeping God are Ivan's own inventions. Regrettably, Ron's new hairstyle actually happened.
February 1988--SCOOBY-DOO AND THE GHOUL SCHOOL (ANIMATED FILM)--Crosses: Dracula; Frankenstein; Creature From the Black Lagoon; Godzilla. Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy take jobs as coaches at an all-girls school that turns out to be an all-girl monsters school. This cross brings in an animated version of Dracula, Frankenstein, the Creature From the Black Lagoon, and Godzilla. For the purposes of this guide, all appearances of those four monster characters are the same in every depiction that in included in the Scooby-Prime Universe. Even though they may appear in varied styles and personas, it is simply a reflection of the environment in which they are seen. We can assume that in the Scooby-Prime Universe, a version of the events of the Dracula and Frankenstein novels, and the original films featuring the Creature From the Black Lagoon and Godzilla, exist. Of course, there is a Godzilla animated series, but this film does not count as a crossover with that series. This is more of a generic Godzilla crossover reference rather than a direct reference to the Godzilla animated series. Dracula’s and the Frankenstein Monster’s daughters are on the school’s volleyball team. At the end of the film, two new students are females from the same species as both the Gill-Man (Creature from the Black Lagoon) and Godzilla. This film follows Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers and is followed by A Pup Named Scooby-Doo. This film is referenced in the 2012 Hotel Transylvania. In both animated films, the werewolf’s daughter in named Winnie.
October 25, 1988--SCOOBY-DOO AND THE RELUCTANT WEREWOLF (ANIMATED FILM)--Animated Series Crosses: Peanuts. Other Crosses: Frankenstein; Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde; Dracula; Wolf Man. Dracula’s plans to hold an annual road race in Transylvania for his monster friends is temporarily foiled when the Wolf Man declines the invitation. Dracula however decides the solution is to create a new werewolf, and he chooses race car driver Shaggy Rogers. See my previous notes from Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School for the Scooby-Prime Universe versions of Dracula and Frankenstein. Though called Jackal and Snyde, this is Jekyll’s Scooby-Prime Universe counterpart. The Wolf Man here must be the Scooby-Prime Universe counterpart of Larry Talbot. In the opening scene, cheering in the stands is an old bald man wearing Charlie Brown’s famous shirt and baseball cap. If Charlie Brown had aged normally from his first appearance up to the time of this film, he would likely be the same age and fit the description of the man in the stands. The crossover seems like an intentional cameo. Thus, this film brings in the Peanuts cartoons, and the original Peanuts comic strip, which has always maintained the same general canon and continuity. This film follows A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and is followed by Scooby-Doo in Arabian Nights.
September 15, 1990 - May 11, 1996--CAPTAIN PLANET AND THE PLANETEERS (ANIMATED SERIES)--When drilling wakes the goddess Gaia, she realizes the planet, which is directly connected to her, is in danger, and sends five rings to five teenagers to become Earth’s protectors, the Planeteers. The rings individually each have a single power, over earth, wind, fire, water, and heart. But when those powers combine, they can summon the super-powered being Captain Planet.
May 14, 1994--SEASON 4 EPISODE 22 “‘TEERS IN THE HOOD”--Animated Series Crosses: Scooby-Doo! The Planeteers go undercover to stop a gang war. At the school the kids are going “21 Jump Street” at, Velma and Shaggy from Mystery, Inc. are seen at the school in the background of one scene. It’s not likely they are students, as at this point Mystery, Inc. has split up and gone off to college. Perhaps they reunited, as they sometimes did during this period, and are there solving their own independent mystery.
2001 - 2009--BONEYARD # 1 - 28 (NBM)--Animated Series Crosses: Scooby-Doo! Other Crosses: Frankenstein; Creature from the Black Lagoon; The Raven; The Screwtape Letters; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Dracula; Evil Dead; The Wolf Man; Zatanna; Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos; Friday the 13th; Hellboy; King Ghidorah; Mothra; The Tempest. Michael Paris inherits a graveyard inhabited by friendly monsters. Hilarity and adventure ensue. One of the inhabitants is Brutus, who is a creature of the Frankenstein model. Brutus’ wife is a Gill-Woman named Nessie. Edgar is a raven who claims to have been the inspiration for Edgar Allan Poe’s story. The Boneyard has its own elected official, Mayor Wormwood. Mayor Wormwood is supposed to be Satan, but this Satan is kind of an idiot. In the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, Wormwood is a poor excuse for a demon who is eaten by his uncle. But of course, what happens when a demon dies? They return to Hell. So this may be the same Wormwood. The vampire named Abby seems to be of the vampiric variety seen on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the greater Television Crossover/Cartoon Multiverse, there are several strains of the “vampire virus”, which create varying types of vampires with different traits, strengths and weaknesses. Abby refers to Michael as her “Renfield”. That could be a pop culture reference, but considering the number of other horror crosses, and that Dracula is real in the Scooby-Prime Universe, I’m inclined to count it. There are “Xandorian” demons which I believe to be an intentional misspelling of Kandorian demons from the Evil Dead series. Somebody refers to the original Dr. Frankenstein. That same person makes a reference to that guy with the stick which may be Larry Talbot, whose cane is famous. At a bar is Zatanna Zatara and a Gill-Man. An Old One appears, who is friendly! His name is Haz’aroth, which may be an intentional misspelling of Azathoth, but I’m not sure Azathoth would be so nice. Perhaps he’s a nicer guy around other monsters. Abby is hired by the government to stop a slasher at a summer camp called Camp Waterlake. Though the slasher turns out to really be Lilith, she has taken the form of Jason Voorhees. This isn’t the first time Camp Crystal Lake has changed its name. In the film series, it did so to try to avoid the bad reputation it has gained. When Abby has to attend a banquet for supernatural beings, she takes Michael as her date. The waiter is Ariel from Shakespeare’s the Tempest. Hellboy is in attendance. So are King Ghidorah and Mothra. The Space Kook is also there. Though the Space Kook was just a man in a mask in Scooby Doo, Where Are You!, most of those villains took on the identities of figures from legends and folklore. So this must be the real Space Kook that inspired the man in the mask who was exposed by Mystery, Inc.
September 2008--IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA--"The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis"--The guys decide to take action, with Mac as the brains, Dennis as the looks, and Charlie as the wild card. Mac explains that this is a winning formula for this sort of team, and cites the Ghostbusters, Scooby-Doo, and the A-Team as examples of past successful teams using this formula.
April 2009--SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS--"SpongeBob SquarePants Vs. the Big One"--Davy Jones appears. Yes, the ghostly sea legend Davy Jones appears often, but in this instance, it's an appearance of Davy Jones, formerly of the Monkees. Davy Jones has appeared as a regular character on the Monkees playing a fictional version of himself, so like Seinfeld, all appearances of Davy Jones count as a MONKEES crossover. Davy Jones has appeared as a fictional version of himself in HEAD, THE MONKEES, GOLDBERG P.I., THE DREAMSTERS: WELCOME TO THE DREAMERY, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, HEY ARNOLD!, The 1st 13th Annual Fancy Anvil Award Show Program Special... Live!... in Stereo, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, THE SINGLE GUY, THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE, HERMAN'S HEAD, THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES, THE BRADY BUNCH, MAKE ROOM FOR GRANDDADDY, Z CARS and THE JOEY BISHOP SHOW.
APR 2016 - DEEP IMPACT - An art exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem MA features relics recovered from the 1926 raid on Innsmouth MA and certain items recovered from south Pacific Islands that seem to be culturally and artistically similar. Members of the Esoteric Order of Dagon, led by Caleb Marsh, attack the museum to reclaim the artifacts for their own use. The Arkham Ghostbusters and Hazel Dinkley from Miskatonic University thwart their first attempt, but word gets out. Soon the Salem Ghostbusters come down from New Hampshire to combat the monsters summoned to the museum, along with other ghost hunters and demonologists (including John Zaffis, Brian J Cano, Scott Gruenwald, the North East Paranormal Society and the Mass Ghost Hunters Paranormal Society), though most of the evidence is confiscated by the Bureau.
The Peabody Essex Museum was created in 1992 from the merger of the Peabody Museum of Salem and the Essex Institute. The Esoteric Order of Dagon, the Marsh family of Deep Ones, and Innsmouth MA are from the story THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH (1931) by Howard Phillips Lovecraft (though he did mention Innsmouth in some of his earlier poems written in 1929 and 1930). Arkham MA is from HPL's "The Picture In the House" (1920) and Miskatonic University is from "Herbert West-Reanimator" (1921-22). Hazel is related to Velma Dinkley, a character from the 1969 cartoon series SCOOBY-DOO WHERE ARE YOU! The Arkham Ghostbusters and Salem Ghostbusters are franchises of the company seen in the 1984 movie GHOSTBUSTERS. John Zaffis was on the SyFy TV show Haunted Collector, and runs the Paranormal and Demonology Research Society of New England (founded in 1998). Brian J Cano was also on Haunted Collector, as well as Scared on Staten Island! / SCARED! (2002 to 2010). Scott Gruenwald was on the Travel Channel series Paranormal Paparazzi (2012) and a 2010 episode of Ghost Adventures. MSG (Mass Ghost Hunters) Paranormal Society has been investigating hauntings and paranormal experiences since 2012. NEPS (the North East Paranormal Society) was founded in 2005 and is based out of central New York. The Bureau is the Monster Control Bureau (MCB) from MONSTER HUNTER INTERNATIONAL(2009) by Larry Correia.
AUG 26-31 -ALIENS VS PREDATORS VS GHOSTBUSTERS: THE OVERNIGHTER-- Hazel Dinkley, archaeology grad student (and teacher's aid) at Miskatonic University, uncovers a Xenomorph nest in a hidden chamber within an excavation under Sentinel Hill in Dunwich MA. She gets the university to sponsor an expedition to study the unusual eggs and their surroundings, and the Ghostbusters are hired to provide esoteric expertise (and extermination, if necessary). The Yutani Corporation loans advanced weaponry and gear for the mission in exchange for full access to all data collected. When the clutch proves to be incubating, producing xenomorph spawn, an alien race of Predators arrive to hunt both humans and xenomorphs. Hazel works with N.E.G.A.T.E.'s Ark Gearheart, Ivan Schablotski, and Victor and Vincent Venkman in combating the aliens and predators. The infestation is contained and human casualties are kept to a minimum, but several of the Yautja escape. Dinkley expressed an interest in joining the Ghostbusters after this, and is tentatively recruited to the Arkham franchise.
Hazel Dinkley is the niece of Velma Dinkley, who first appeared in SCOOBY DOO, WHERE ARE YOU! episode 1 in 1969. Miskatonic University, Sentinel Hill, and Dunwich MA all appear in H P Lovecraft's story THE DUNWICH HORROR (1929). Xenomorph aliens and their eggs first appeared in the 1979 film ALIEN. The Yutani Corporation is derived from Weyland-Yutani, also from ALIEN, but as a separate, not-as-yet-merged company, it first appears in ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES TECHNICAL MANUAL (1995). The Ghostbusters of N.E.G.A.T.E. (North East Ghostbusters Alliance: Taskforce Ecto) are latter day members of the company started in the 1984 movie GHOSTBUSTERS. The Yautja extraterrestrials are the titular race in the film PREDATOR (1987) and its subsequent franchise films. The plot point of the Yutani Corporation possessing advanced alien-designed equipment references the events of ALIENS VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM (2007).
OCT 15 - GHOSTFACERS - Ivan Shablotski, Hazel Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers meet at Miskatonic University and travel to Woodsboro CA to deal with a new Ghostface killer, though this one turns out to be a relative of a previous victim, trying to shut down production of the latest STAB film. Shaggy mentions that Woodsboro has become the new Crystal Cove when it comes to creepy towns, which is why he thought this case may require real Ghostbusters, but he wanted to avoid the California-based groups, on the chance it wasn't really supernatural.
Norvill "Shaggy" Rogers is from the SCOOBY-DOO cartoon franchise, though this particular version is based on the live action SCOOBY-DOO movie (2002) and the animated series SCOOBY-DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED (2010-2013). Woodsboro and the Ghostface Killer are from the SCREAM movie franchise that began with SCREAM (1996). Ghostbusters are from GHOSTBUSTERS (1984). Miskatonic University is from HERBERT WEST-REANIMATOR by H. P. Lovecraft in 1922, though Shaggy's enrollment as a student there is from SCOOBY-DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED.
ALTERNATE REALITIES: Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, The Muppets, Beetlejuice, Earthworm Jim, Robot Chicken and Phineas and Ferb and many others have all played their own versions of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Scooby's Trip to Ahz, Wizard of Ooze, The Wizard of Ooze, The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, Wizard of Odd, Cannot Be Erased, So Sorry and Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz respectively)
So that's it for the Scooby timelines... But wait! There is another! Coming soon... JOHNNY BRAVO! A spiritual sequel to the original Saturday morning Scooby-Doo! This timeline may also include other Cartoon Network uses of Scooby, which seem to draw more from the original Saturday morning version rather than the more modern versions.
There are also parody appearances in such shows as Drawn Together, Harvey Birdman, Family Guy and Robot Chicken, which draw from the original Saturday morning cartoons but include more adult themes. I don't consider those part of the original timeline. I do reference those crossovers in other blog posts on this website and in the upcoming Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia.
This started with me trying to place Scooby-Doo in the Television Crossover Universe. Once the Horror Crossover Encyclopedia was completed, it was clear that there was more than one reality with Scooby-Doo in existence. My current work with the Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia has further led me to that conclusion.
Recently, Ivan and I recorded our first episode of the new Random Fandom podcast which focused on Scooby-Doo Team-Up, and this inspired Ivan and I to work on the Five Scoobies Project. Over the next few weeks or months, Ivan and I will be working on separate timelines for the various Scooby Universes.

Tonight, I begin on the final of the timelines, ironically going back to the beginning.
Tonight we'll be discussing the original Scooby-Doo timeline. This we'll call the Scooby-Prime Universe. It's not the TVCU or Cartoon Universe, but it's certainly part of the same multiverse.
Here, all the original Saturday morning cartoons are canon, as well as the animated films of the 1980s. This is the era of Scrappy, Scooby-Dum and Scooby-Dee, Vincent Van Ghoul, Dynomutt, the Boo Brothers, and lots of stars of the 1970s.
What we will not include in this timeline is Laff-A-Lympics, nor will we cover Scooby's appearances outside of the regular Scooby series, which wouldn't be part of the series canon. So none of the Kids All-Stars to the Rescue type stuff.
Even though this timeline only runs through two decades, it's still a timeline which operates in "cartoon time" based on the slower aging of the kids. But in this timeline, the kids do eventually grow up.
1942--As Raclaw, Ivan publically defeats a demon at the Arkham Train Depot using his Tillinghast Generator, creating a bit of a sensation. Several people start trying to build their own 'spirit box' devices. Ultimately Ivan accidentally founds a Ghostbusters franchise in 1942, though he is careful not to use that name; he refers to them as Ghost Breakers and his many recruits, most of whom are Miskatonic University students, set up their headquarters on campus. Alarmed that he might draw the attention of the real Raclaw Schablotski's still-living relatives in Massachusetts, Ivan insists on making engineering professor Basil Dinkley the public head of the "Ghost Breakers Club". After they've been active for about a month, the group is contacted by Larry Lawrence who claims to represent the 'official' Ghost Breakers and threatens to sue, prompting Ivan and Raymond to rename their group "The Real Ghost Breakers". Tillinghast Generator and Miskatonic University are elements of Lovecraft's Mythos Cycle of stories, specifically FROM BEYOND(1920) and HERBERT WEST-REANIMATOR(1922). Basil Dinkley is related to Velma Dinkley from SCOOBY DOO, WHERE ARE YOU (1969) and other cartoons, though he cannot be the same Dr. Basil Von Dinkenstein Velma claims was her great great uncle in SCOOBY DOO! FRANKENCREEPY (2014) as that Basil was said to be the monster maker who inspired Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN novel in the 1800s. Larry Lawrence is from the 1940 film GHOST BREAKERS, an adaptation of an earlier play The Ghost Breaker (1909). The Real Ghost Breakers is a play on the animated Ghostbusters cartoon titled THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS due to an already existing Ghostbusters television property. Ghostbusters, of course, reflects both the Filmation GHOST BUSTERS property and the Sony GHOSTBUSTERS property.
1964?--A PUP NAMED SCOOBY-DOO--I'm not sure if this should be included. It is a Saturday Morning cartoon, and the final Scooby series of the 1980s, running from 1988 to 1991. There is a TVCU divergent timeline for the trend of the "babyfication" of older cartoon characters, and perhaps I should do a future post about that timeline.
BATMAN (TELEVISION SERIES)--Batman and Robin protect Gotham City from various bizarre criminals. For this timeline's purposes, this dynamic duo is Bruce Wayne as Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin. The Batusi was seen in two episodes of the original Batman TV series. The first, "Hi Diddle Riddle," was the series' first episode and originally aired January 12, 1966. The second, "The Pharaoh's in a Rut," was the 28th episode and originally aired April 14, 1966. It has reappeared in many television shows, including two episodes of The Simpsons, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Everybody Loves Raymond, and Shaggy refers to the dance in an episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! It has also been in movies such as Pulp Fiction, Antz, and Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt. The cover of the DC comic Solo #7 featured a drawing of Wonder Girl in mid-Batusi. The cover (by writer/artist Mike Allred) was originally meant to be one of the Adam West TV Batman in the same pose. However, due to unspecified tensions regarding DC's relationship with the company that produced the 1960s TV show, Allred was forced to submit a different cover for the issue. The Batusi is mentioned in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "Mayhem of the Music Meister!" during the song "Drives us bats!". The Batusi is performed by character Fox Mulder in the 2016 episode of The X-Files, "Babylon".
SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? - THE BEGINNING OF MYSTERY, INC. AND THE TREND OF MYSTERY SOLVING TEENS AND THEIR MASCOTS
September 13, 1969 - November 4, 1978--SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU! (ANIMATED SERIES)--A group of teenagers and their talking dog go around solving mysteries which always involves debunking a fake haunting. For the purposes of this timeline, most Scooby series from 1969 to 1989 are all part of the main Scooby-Doo! series. This series is followed by The New Scooby-Doo Movies in 1972. It was remade as a live action movie in 2002. The series has been referenced and spoofed numerous times in film and television. Note that the series was cancelled in 1970 after its second season, replaced by its next incarnation, but was revived in its original form for a third season in 1978.

That would imply that the Dick Van Dyke seen in this episode isn't the actor, but is instead Doctor Sloan.
BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD (ANIMATED SERIES)--Seasoned hero Batman teams with all the other heroes of his world. This series in not, I repeat not, part of the Scooby-Prime Universe. But it is included for a story below that I do consider part of the canon. In a few episodes of the series, Bat-Mite has demonstrated how there is a large number of alternate timelines. One of those, in which Batman teams up with Scooby-Doo, is more likely the Scooby-Prime Universe timeline, while this series is a divergent timeline which seems to be designated “Earth-23”.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 25 “BAT-MITE PRESENTS: BATMAN’S STRANGEST CASES!”--Animated Series Crosses: Scooby-Doo!; Mad; Adventures of Batman. Other Crosses: Bat-Manga. Bat-Mite presents three tales from alternate realities. In this instance, the Scooby-Prime Universe is one of those alternate realities. As explained in the previous entry, the Brave and the Bold series is a divergent timeline to the Scooby-Prime Universe. But from their perspective, the Scooby-Prime Universe is the divergent timeline. The Scooby-Prime Universe story is a sequel to the Batman appearances in the New Scooby-Doo Movies in the 1970s. The other two stories take place in the world of Mad Magazine parodies and the world of Manga. It’s likely those are also divergent realities in the Scooby-Doo Multiverse.

September 7 - December 7, 1985--THE 13 GHOSTS OF SCOOBY-DOO (ANIMATED SERIES)--Scooby and Shaggy are tricked by two ghosts into opening the Chest of Demons, which releases 13 of the worst demons and ghosts. They are then tasked to recapture the ghosts. They are assisted by Scooby’s nephew Scrappy, old friend Daphne (now a journalist), the warlock Vincent Van Ghoul, and a young thief named Flim Flam. Scooby-Doo, Where are Are You! and the New Scooby-Doo Movies took place when the kids were in high school, but this series features Daphne having graduated from college and having a job as a journalist. Vincent Price was the voice of Van Ghoul, and the character was modeled after the actor. Also, it should be noted that this is the first series where the Scooby bad guys were real supernatural beings rather than men in masks. This is the first Scooby series that has an ongoing storyline throughout the series with a conclusion. This series is a continuation of the previous New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. Following this series, Scooby appears next in Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers. This particular series gets referenced in Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase.

The 1980s, more than any other decade, was the era of children’s entertainment created for the purposes of selling toys. In that tradition, the Pound Puppies were based on a line of popular stuffed animals.

May 14, 1994--SEASON 4 EPISODE 22 “‘TEERS IN THE HOOD”--Animated Series Crosses: Scooby-Doo! The Planeteers go undercover to stop a gang war. At the school the kids are going “21 Jump Street” at, Velma and Shaggy from Mystery, Inc. are seen at the school in the background of one scene. It’s not likely they are students, as at this point Mystery, Inc. has split up and gone off to college. Perhaps they reunited, as they sometimes did during this period, and are there solving their own independent mystery.

AUG 26-31 -ALIENS VS PREDATORS VS GHOSTBUSTERS: THE OVERNIGHTER-- Hazel Dinkley, archaeology grad student (and teacher's aid) at Miskatonic University, uncovers a Xenomorph nest in a hidden chamber within an excavation under Sentinel Hill in Dunwich MA. She gets the university to sponsor an expedition to study the unusual eggs and their surroundings, and the Ghostbusters are hired to provide esoteric expertise (and extermination, if necessary). The Yutani Corporation loans advanced weaponry and gear for the mission in exchange for full access to all data collected. When the clutch proves to be incubating, producing xenomorph spawn, an alien race of Predators arrive to hunt both humans and xenomorphs. Hazel works with N.E.G.A.T.E.'s Ark Gearheart, Ivan Schablotski, and Victor and Vincent Venkman in combating the aliens and predators. The infestation is contained and human casualties are kept to a minimum, but several of the Yautja escape. OCT 15 - GHOSTFACERS - Ivan Shablotski, Hazel Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers meet at Miskatonic University and travel to Woodsboro CA to deal with a new Ghostface killer, though this one turns out to be a relative of a previous victim, trying to shut down production of the latest STAB film. Shaggy mentions that Woodsboro has become the new Crystal Cove when it comes to creepy towns, which is why he thought this case may require real Ghostbusters, but he wanted to avoid the California-based groups, on the chance it wasn't really supernatural.
ALTERNATE REALITIES: Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, The Muppets, Beetlejuice, Earthworm Jim, Robot Chicken and Phineas and Ferb and many others have all played their own versions of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Scooby's Trip to Ahz, Wizard of Ooze, The Wizard of Ooze, The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, Wizard of Odd, Cannot Be Erased, So Sorry and Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz respectively)
So that's it for the Scooby timelines... But wait! There is another! Coming soon... JOHNNY BRAVO! A spiritual sequel to the original Saturday morning Scooby-Doo! This timeline may also include other Cartoon Network uses of Scooby, which seem to draw more from the original Saturday morning version rather than the more modern versions.
There are also parody appearances in such shows as Drawn Together, Harvey Birdman, Family Guy and Robot Chicken, which draw from the original Saturday morning cartoons but include more adult themes. I don't consider those part of the original timeline. I do reference those crossovers in other blog posts on this website and in the upcoming Cartoon Crossover Encyclopedia.
