The Television Crossover Universe Celebrates Gordon Long!
Gordon Long is the final of the original Crew to discuss. Gordon was a founding member of the TVCU Crew along with Ivan and James.
Like the previous two Crewsies I discussed, I met Gordon Long also in the Wold Newton Family Yahoo group, where Gordon, among other things, was the master of linking fictional characters based on names.
When I created the Crossovers Forum, Gordon was one of the earliest and most active participants, and when the TVCU website was launched, he became one who contributed a lot of ideas and discussion relevant to the TVCU. He really got what the TVCU was about. He gets crossovers and he happens to know a lot about classic TV, in such detail that makes him a great resource for me.
So it was a no-brainer that he was also a founding member of the TVCU Crew when I created the idea. And Gordon enthusiastically jumped on board and wrote some of the most excellent crossover chronologies on this website. Sadly, after a while, Gordon had some challenges with being able to get onto the website in order to keep posting, and so he hasn't posted in a while. But he is still actively involved in our discussion forum and continues to be a resource for me in my research.
I hope that someday Gordon will be able to get back to posting his own chronologies here, as they were always a joy for me to read.
When I presented the idea of these bios to the TVCU Crew, I gave them a short interview questionaire, purely optional. Gordon didn't fill one out and return it to me, but if he should in the future, I'll post that here. But I will continue at this point to discuss some of my favorites of Gordon's posts.
The first post from Gordon Long was on August 2, 2011. The spotlight was on Charlie's Angels, but in what would become a classic Long style, there was so much more to it. Along with Charlie's Angels, the post also focused on T.J. Hooker, SWAT, The Rookies, and others.
On September 25, 2011, Gordon followed up his first post with one of our most unique posts, combining the most odd assortment of series. This post was titled Don't Go Br-Br-Br-Br-Breaking My Heart: Of Groundhogs, Three Strange Men, Particle Accelerators, and Time Bounces. Yes, it's exactly as it sounds and I won't go into the wonderful theories Gordon uses to string together connections between Single White Female, Groundhog Day, 12:01 PM, Will and Grace, The Nanny, Glee, and Star Trek: The Next Generation!
December 25, 2011 was the date Gordon posted my favorite of his posts, a timeline of the Rankin-Bass holiday cartoons. Every Christmas this post's views spike, and this post is vital for my own research for an essay I'm currently working on for Worlds and Mythology II.
Sadly, this was the final post. Gordon gave us three of our best posts, over a short four month span. I really hope that Gordon will someday post again.
