Writing a Phineas and Ferb blog.  Aren't I a little old to be writing a Phineas and Ferb blog?  Yes, yes I am.

Today's blog topic covers yet another cartoon, but it's not in the Looniverse.  It's in the TVCU!!!

And yes, there's some explaining to do.  First, it's one of those cartoons that is on for years but they don't seem to age.  Well, consider this.  Each story takes place in one single afternoon of the summer.  That allows for about 104 summer days per year, or 104 stories per year.  Thus, if we take every story as being one afternoon a day during a summer, then realistically, they are aging, but the stories are being televised to us on a spread out schedule.  And if you don't like that answer, then I point you to M*A*S*H, and say if you can accept M*A*S*H, then you can accept a cartoon's timeline.  So there.

The other issue is a secret agent platypus, and that's actually not to hard to explain.  First, this is not a world where people just accept anthropomorphic talking intelligent animals.  The platypus in question is a pet who has to play dumb most of the time.  His owners don't know about his dual identity.  So clearly, he is some mutant, likely created or mutated by the government to which he serves.  But after all, intelligent animals aren't completely anomalous to the TVCU.  Look at Scooby-Doo, for example.

The final issue I guess would be that these two kids are intelligent at a level comparable to perhaps the Doctor. It's not explained why.  But they do incredibly amazing things each afternoon that escape the notice of their parents, much to the annoyance of their sister.

Oh, and note that even the title sequence contains a crossover...  The duo have encountered one of the Frankenstein monsters at some point early on in their adventures.  And a mummy that may have been Mummy X!!!

27,000 B.C.--PHINEAS AND FERB--"Tri-Stone Area"--This tale takes place in Dansville of prehistoric times, in a culture less technologically advanced than Bedrock of 52,000 B.C. but clearly some of Bedrock culture survived to this point.

• Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur - The Tri-Stone Area is similar to the 1939 public domain Daffy Duck cartoon.
• Caddyshack - Carl Spackler in Caddyshack claims to have golfed with the Dalai Lama. He says the Lama told him "Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga" which sounds very similar to how Caveman Monogram talks.

1100--PHINEAS AND FERB--"Excaliferb"--During medieval times, Phineas and Ferb (or, Ferb-a-lot) set off on an epic quest to find the legendary sword, Excaliferb, so they can defeat the evil sorcerer, Malifishmirtz.

• Monty Python and the Holy Grail - When they attempt to cross Professor Poofenplotz bridge, she requires them to answer three questions, just as in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where king Arthur and his knights have to cross the Bridge of Death, where each Knight is forced to answer three questions by the bridge-keeper before they can cross the Gorge of Eternal Peril. The use of SPAM can also be considered a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, as it's referenced in the song sung during the Camelot scene. "We eat ham and jam and SPAM a lot!"
• Jabberwocky - Ferb refers to his sword as a "vorpal blade" referring to the vorpal sword mention in this famous poem.
• Stonehenge - When Malifishmirtz's stone meat minions fall down the hill, the form a structure similar to Stonehenge.
• SPAM - The canned meat resembles the well-known canned meat product both in packaging and shape/color.
• Gargoyles - A green gargoyle resembling Goliath with a beard is one of the monsters that carries Phineas and Ferb to the final battle.
• Elmo's World - When the magic mirror comes down, it says "You have mail" in the same way Elmo's computer does.

Summer 2007--PHINEAS AND FERB (Episodes 1 - 104)--Phineas and Ferb are extremely intelligent 10 year old step brothers who constantly seek out a new adventure each afternoon of the summer.  The fact that their parents are ignorant of the weirdness around them is an annoyance to their 15 year old sister.  Meanwhile, their pet platypus is only pretending to be normal as he really is a secret agent, constantly thwarting an evil scientists plans every afternoon.

• The brobots of "I, Brobot" originally appeared in an episode of The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Jimmy Neutron probably takes place in the Looniverse, though. Santa Claus is also in this episode.
• In The Magnificent Few" Dr Doofenshmirtz has sharks with a laser beam strapped to their heads. It seems he bought these from Dr. Evil. Or, worse, Doofenshmirtz and Dr. Evil have teamed up to take over the world!
• A movie theater in "Are You My Mummy?" is showing Monkeyman 2. Monkeyman was a movie seen on Hey Arnold!
• In "It's a Mud, Mud, Mud, Mud World" one of the Evil Investors is a convict from an episode of the Mr. Bean cartoon "Missing Teddy." Mr. Bean finally has a crossover!  (Thanks to James for many of these crossover finds.)

  It's probably not his original model, unless the museum tried to partly dismantle it so as to be inoperable, but it definitely follows his original design. Perhaps after he dismantled the original machine at the end of Stephen Baxter's The Time Ships, the Time Traveller built this as an impoved second model (even if it fails to look half as cool).

•  In the same episode, "It's About Time," a chair with rockets attached can be seen in the museum. This is a refernce to the Chinese legend of Wan Hu.

  I don't know what to make of this one. In the episode "Tree to Get Ready" Town Hall and the Mayor both greatly resemble Mr. Mayor and Town Hall from Powerpuff Girls. We know Phineas and Ferb does not take place in the Looniverse, but in theTVCU; we've previously established Powerpuff Girls as being in the Looniverse.
  
  Solution one: move the Powerpuff Girls into the TVCU, with "Townsville" being a codename for Danville. Solution two: assume that the Mr. Mayor and Town Hall of Phineas and Ferb have the same relation to the versions of Powerpuff Girls as the TVCU George Washington has to the various Looniverse Washingtons.
• In "Unfair Science Fair" a girl displays a work-harness that has four metal octopus arms. Perhaps she is the original Doctor Octopus' granddaughter or great niece. Phineas and Ferb build their own stargate.
• Phineas and Ferb already had the Necronomicon featured in the background of one episode.  
   it was sitting on the bookshelf of the recurring mad scientist's study. Had nothing to do with the plot. Wasn't read or acknowledged, and most viewers likely didn't recognize it. But there it was. (It was even labeled.)
• Spaceballs - There is a suck/blow lever in Doof's lair, referencing Spaceballs.
• Frosty the Snowman - When Perry puts a hat on a snowman, it comes to life and walks in a random direction. This is what happens in the song and TV Special.[5]
• The Wilkins Brothers are played by the actors who played the Duke cousins in The Dukes of Hazzard.
• Geico - Candace states that she doesn't want to save money on car insurance, a reference to a series of commercials in which a person receives a phone call about saving money on car insurance.
• the two are seen running through a jungle of Venus Fly-Traps looking plants. These plants look like Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors.
• The Incredibles - The ballpit boy who sees Agent P is similar to the boy who is always on a tricycle on the Parr's driveway.
• The 'Mr. Banana' company was based on the same company in Kim Possible, where Monique works.
• Club Penguin - The "missing agent," Gary the Gander, has the same name as a main character penguin, Gary the Gadget Guy, who also works with an elite spy organization, where he is also known as Agent G.
• Casino Royale - Agent P's stop at Monte Carlo features a game of Baccarat and background music in the style of the James Bond movies.
• At the end of a movie within an episode, the building in the background looks like the school from "Recess".
• Danville Canyon looks like Springfield Gorge from the Simpsons, also from the Road Runner cartoons.
• The name "Spinning Tops of Doom" is an allusion to the Disney Channel series Kim Possible.
• The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius - The cows poop nuts and bolts, like Goddard and there are similar robotic bulls in the episode Fowl Bull.
• Pele's Curse - Candace getting a curse from the necklace she found that causing her to have bad luck. The idol is also a reference to the Brady Bunch's Hawaiian Vacation (right down to the identical "theme music") where Bobby finds an idol that brings him bad luck, but he initially thinks it's a good luck charm.
• Peter Pan - When Doofenshmirtz is explaining to Perry why he was on Pink Unicorn Island, he says, "I wanted Skull Island right over there, but it was already booked ...." This is a reference to the island of the same name.
• Pippi Longstocking: - A girl resembling Pippi is in the group of humans during A-Prime Calypso. The only difference is she's wearing a green bathing-suit.
• Lilo and Stitch - The guy who lays on Candace when she's on the beach chair looks like the guy who drops his ice cream in Lilo and Stitch. The man has the same shades, and swim suit as him. Also, Candace's Hawaiian outfit looks similar to one of Lilo's dresses. Lilo and Stitch also live in Hawaii.
• The disturbance in the universe that Baljeet senses is a reference to the Force.
• During the Tree-Related Wish song, a bear can be seen sitting next to a tree and reading a newspaper. The bear is seen again during the end credits after Rusted, saying, "Yes. Yes, I do." The two appearances are a combination allusion to the "Charmin Bears" series of commercials for Charmin toilet paper and to the sarcastic/rhetorical question about what bears do in the woods.
• At the end of "Wizard of Odd", Isabella instructs Abraham Lincoln, Santa Claus, an astronaut and Pinocchio to follow the yellow sidewalk, among others.  

Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB (Episodes 105 - on)--Another summer of adventures.

• There is a film within the series that is a crossover between True Blood and Teen Wolf (and clearly spoofing Twilight).  In the TVCU, Teen Wolf is based on true events, whereas True Blood is fictional.  

• Space Invaders - The holographic aliens descend from the sky in rows, just like they do in the game Space Invaders. This is also alluded to by Doofenshmirtz shouting "You're being invaded! From Space! By invaders! From space!"
• The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Lawrence mentioned: "Invading force from Planet 10", this was the planet from which the Aliens came in "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension".
• The Honeymooners - The Sewer Repairman pays tribute to the Ed Norton character on the classic Jackie Gleason series, The Honeymooners. Norton, portrayed by Art Carney, nearly always wore the same outfit--White T-Shirt, Unbuttoned Vest, and Pork-pie Hat. Norton worked for the New York City Sewer Department. (One must wonder if this is indeed Buzsla?)
• Futurama - The professor in the endangered animals meeting is called Professor Herbert Farnsworth Weatherman Jones, giving a resemblance to Futurama's mad scientist, Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth. Farnsworth may refer to Hubert's ancestor, Philo T. Farnsworth, in real life, one of the inventors of television.
• Asteroids - The "Asteroid Warning" sign on the space station features an asteroid which resembles those from the 1980 Atari video game.
• The Big Bang Theory - During a song in "Bullseye!", there is an evil scientist resembling Dr. Sheldon Cooper.(!!!)
• Ghostbusters/The Real Ghostbusters - The devices used by the kids to investigate the haunted house closely resemble the PKE Meters used by the Ghostbusters.
• Ozzy Osborne - One of the zombies in the Russell's underground river has the appearance of a zombie Ozzy.
• Mr Bean and Friends - At some point, Doofenshmirtz gets his head stuck in a cooked turkey. This is an allusion to what happens to Mr. Bean in the Christmas episode, and to Joey and Monica from Friends in the episode The One with All the Thanksgivings. Doofenshmirtz lampshades the allusion, by saying, "It can't be the first time someone's got their head stuck in a turkey".  (Most of my info stolen, er, borrowed from the Phineas and Ferb Wiki.)

Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB ACROSS THE 2ND DIMENSION--The duo end up using the mad scientist's invention to travel to an alternate Mirror Universe, where they meet their other selves and learn that their pet is a secret agent.  The cause of the Mirror Universe is always misleading. Often, people visit it when they are being shown a glimpse of a life that could have been, such as "What if I was never born?" or "What if I don't change my ways?" or "I wish so and so never came to this town" and people then assume that this world is created by said angel, ghost, or demon, when really they are merely being transported to another world where those events occurred. It's likely that Phineas & Ferb mirror reality is THE Mirror Reality, but is only seems as if it's the cause of one being. (And I place Phineas & Ferb in the TVCU despite it's animated style, because of solid crossover ties.)

Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB--Upcoming film that will mix animation and live action.  Potentially there will be crossovers, but the film is still being rewritten at this time.

Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB/ED EDD N EDDY CROSSOVER--Fan made film, this got picked up by Disney XD and Cartoon Network and was aired on both networks.  Note that Ed, Edd and Eddy are from another reality within the story (the Looniverse).

Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB/ED, EDD, N EDDY CROSSOVER SERIES--Soon to be aired spin-off of fan film produced by Disney XD.

Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB:  MISSION MARVEL--The upcoming Disney/Marvel crossover Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel features the Marvel heroes Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk, and Thor, the Marvel villans Whiplash, MODOK, Red Skull, and Venom, and characters from Phineas and Ferb, where the storyline involves Phineas and Ferb trying to restore power to the Marvel heroes, whose powers were taken away by Doofenshmirtz.



Last Day of Summer 2008--PHINEAS AND FERB: THE BEST LIVE TOUR EVER--The two try to make the most of the last day of summer.

2009—Phineas and Ferb—“Elementary, My Dear Stacy”--The Flynn-Fletcher family goes on vacation in England. Bored beyond all comprehension, Candace reads all the Sherlock Holmes stories. Candace being Candace, she uses her newfound “talent” for deductive reasoning to bust her brothers. It doesn’t end well.  While tracking her brothers all about London, Candace passes a man dressed in Victorian finery. An exceptionally befuddled man dressed in Victorian finery. One wonders if this is the Watson tulpa. There's no evidence, but, perhaps, just perhaps, it's him.  A 00-agent also appears.

July 2010--PHINEAS AND FERB--"Phineas and Ferb:  Summer Belongs to You!"--On the deserted island, Phineas digs through the sand and finds a sponge and a starfish that are similar in appearance to SpongeBob and Patrick.

October 2010--DISNEY CHANNEL ALL-STAR PARTY--A Karaoke dance party competition with Phineas and Ferb; Joe, Kevin and Nick Lucas (JONAS L.A.); Sonny Munroe (SONNY WITH A CHANCE); Alex Russo (WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE); HANNAH MONTANA; Zack and Cody Martin (SUITE LIFE ON DECK); Mitchie Torres (CAMP ROCK film series); and Mii (that generic Wii character, bringing him actually into the TVCU!!!)

December 3, 2010 to Present--TAKE TWO WITH PHINEAS AND FERB--The duo get a talk show.  Note that this must take place in the present as it involves contemporary celebrity interviews.  The show would then start with the two now being 13, even if they look unaged.  Which means now they are 15, even though looking unaged.  (They are waiting for their growth spurt.  When I was 16, I was only 4'11", so this isn't unrealistic.)  Note their age is derived from when they travel 20 years in the future, at which time their mom states they are both 30.

Mid 2011--PHINEAS AND FERB/ED, EDD, N EDDY CROSSOVER SERIES:  THE TEEN YEARS--The groups meet up again a few years later as teenagers.

February 2012--TAKE TWO WITH PHINEAS AND FERB--Miss Piggy comes on the show to plug the new MUPPETS film, which is based on their recent comeback.


March 2013--MUSIC VIDEO--Perry is seen dancing with JESSIE.

August 2013--DISNEY INFINITY--A 3D game that brings to life all your favourite Disney characters.   Phineas and Perry the Platypus (Agent P) appear.

????--PHINEAS AND FERB--The movie!!!

ALTERNATE REALITIES:

MAD--Demonstrated to be an alternate reality in the Television Crossover Universe in Batman: the Brave and the Bold.  They have parodied Phineas and Ferb several times.

PHINEAS AND FERB/STAR WARS--An amalgamation of the two, similar to the Family Guy Blue Harvest episodes.



So that's about it.  Just to wrap up, I offer some purely conjectural observations.  First, note that Dr. Doofenshmirtz went to an evil medical school, and his company is called Doofenshmirtz Evil, Inc.  Could Dr. Evil be his silent partner, (as he's always off frozen in space?)

My second observation is that the evil doctor resembles one of Doctor Claw's evil scientist henchmen from MADD.  Perhaps he got his start there before branching off on his own.

So that's it.  On to the critiquing.  Oh, there you are, Perry.
